Not the original asker, but I just wanted to appreciate this explanation-simple, concise, but still maintaining a one-to-one correspondence with the actual mathematics. Thank you!

As a student who's only been exposed to stats in undergrad (in the context of using multiple regression in Econometrics), where can I learn more about this? especially about choosing a spline basis and Taylor's theorem?

Hi HN,

I'm Wiresong. I made Sonica (an extension that assists blind developers in satisfying line-based formatting requirements). While it's aimed at professional developers, it's proved useful for me as well, by letting me build better habits about splitting long lines of code. I've blogged about my process-if you have any questions, please let me know!
