There's the metric tonne 1000kg, the US short ton 2000lbs and the US long ton 2240lbs(1016kg) also known as imperial ton. I started calling the metric tonne a megagram because I got tired of trying to figure out if it was short, long or metric I was dealing with

The margin is in cutting and faceting. The Swiss make a CNC diamond cutting machine that can cut and facet a diamond in about an hour vs days for manual cutting.

I got one of the cups from DS9 and it's by far my favorite mug

The positioners and tools are much cheaper if you buy direct from a DMC distributor. I bought the afm 8 and af8 from patlon in Canada and I got charged the MSRP on the DMC website. AF8 and the universal positioners was like 400usd when I got it and it covers like 90% of use cases. It can't do db pins though. If you buy the 38999 connectors from PEI genesis it also costs a lot less than what you would expect.

By the limited information provided in their engineering video yes, it's basically a battery + BMS in the really big box and a charge controller, inverter and service disconnect in the other box. The batteries seem to be liquid cooled though.

Correction: it's a complete solar system (sans panels) packaged as an all in one system. Looks like they're trying to applelify solar

Underground mine planner, also worked on surface as an instrumentation tech. Cool to see other people from the industry on hacker news.

My immediate thought when I saw Handbook of Black Magic was "wonder what book has his nickname". "High Speed Digital Design: A Handbook of Black Magic" well I'll be damned, wish I had known about this a year ago.

You are my hero, been telling this at clouds for years after I took a power engineering course. Solar and wind are cheaper until you consider storage and grid reliability. Grid storage battery can be used for peaker/frequency regulation regardless of what you used to charge them full stop.

Relay go click. Nice board, should add an LED parallel to the coil with a jumper to enable/disable the led, can very helpful if you're in a louder area and you can't reliably tell if the relay is on.

I have the same problem, I don't track my spending but have money automatically plowed into different investments and am generally frugal. Been looking into money manager ex and home bank as foss softwares. Mint, quicken and ynab are popular but I don't want a cloud solution where I have to pay a subscription fee, I mostly just want transactions with labelled data so I can see where the money goes.

If it's life safety chances are there's an acceptance/certification test that needs to be done to demonstrate safety. I think some applications that are life safety can use FEA for acceptance test but the criteria are strict and the FEA model needs to be well understood. FEA is mostly to aid in the design phase.

Mentour pilot did a detailed video on this accident a couple months ago. He gives the insights on the accident from a pilots perspective. https://youtu.be/Im334Eg3ZLE

I jump from altium to kicad to solidworks multiple times a day but the most annoying jump is when I go to ltspice and go, why is move bound to F7. I stopped even bothering to try to use hotkeys on LTspice.

The running joke among my doctor friends is that pediatricians are immune to disease. Sick like a dog for the first couple years but then they become bullet proof.
