Agree or disagree, this seems like a step that's going to have massive implications. Optics aside, this foresages an entire cloud/tech ecosystem developing to cater to this set of users, not unlike the ones developing in other countries with "different" values from the "western" ones. Time will tell what this means to the US as a country and any reconcilement that might have to happen if things can ever get back to sanity.
