ok good job sure but lets be real, cant they just paste their info into gpt and have it just generate a resume on the fly as html or something and if they can just do that then why would they even bother using a form builder at that point...im not saying ppl not gonna use ur tool or whatever and maybe its good opportunity to learn and bond with ur wife on a project together like that, is cute, but idk how much of an edge it will give you on the market. like maybe you can just craft some clever prompt to make the resume look pretty (like eg use tailwind and make it look like shadcn with X color) and have different styles and just have some ui wrapper for that but when u just building a form builder with bunch of random options kinda just feel like bloat when someone can just paste their shit in gpt and get resume super quick without even registering.
just food for thought to give u an extra edge, not saying ur product is bad or anything. maybe like 5 years ago it would actually hit but these days you are now competing against like x100 ai slop and also when applying for jobs many corpos force the people to fill out their own webforms anyway so maybe like somehow streamlining that or trying to attack from a more utility angle would also be good idea

thank you very much for the feedback and the utility suggestion. I understand what you’re saying, already there are 1000+ of resume builders and career tools, and also some are prefer to use GPT and get things free,
Our main focus is on the non-technical segment. We’re also have ideas like voice AI and agentic mode, auto-apply etc
So far, we’ve reviewed and tested around 100 sites and their feedback pages on platforms like Trustpilot and Google Reviews. around only 1–2 sites offer a free download option. Most redirect users to payment pages. Very few allow Word file downloads, and none of them are free. Each has its pros and cons.
At the end of the day, the market is definitely competitive, but we believe there’s still room for good and usable tools. Once again, we truly appreciate your feedback. :)

My wife and I have been working on this project for quite some time. It’s an online resume and career tools platform called Magic CV. She has been handling the backend development, while I’ve been working on the frontend side.
Yesterday evening, we decided to make our platform 100% free for everyone. It currently includes:
- Up to 10 resumes - Up to 10 cover letters - Unlimited PDF downloads (no watermarks, no paywalls) - Limited AI features
Roadmap
- Word format downloads (in progress) - Job Tracker (in progress) - Targeted resumes for specific jobs - Custom prompts + ability to use your own AI API keys (stay free forever) - Personal website builder - Plus a few new ideas we’re exploring
Data* DB data is encrypted. No sign-in required to try out the resume builder.
Monetization
Right now, most of the key features are completely free. If users need more resumes, targeted resumes, or extra AI usage, we offer one-time payment options.
We’re also considering enabling Google AdSense for free users (currently no ads). Not yet decided, would love HN’s feedback on this.
I’d really appreciate your thoughts, suggestions, feature requests.
