Do these settlements usually cost less out of pocket than just paying people what they are owed? I don't really understand why he would go down that path, especially by pissing off a bunch of high-powered lawyers.
Acting lawfully in the first place is pretty much always cheaper.
A trial would cost even more if he loses, and would mean airing a whole lot of dirty laundry.
