Internet 'stoics' are ruining stoicism as they are ruining most other forms of philosophy by bastardising it and regurgitating it in the form of easily-consumable self-help pablum

A huge amount of which appears to be consumed and re-re-gurgitated by adolescent gamers

Disagree? It's ad copy promoting a self-help book.

> 10-15 years ago if you wanted to be a journalist you had to go work for one of the major newspapers, nowdays you can strike out on your own with a Substack and Twitter/X account.

That's not journalism, that's punditry.

What's new is considering people that professionally flap their lips about anything that comes into their head - no matter how removed from reality - 'journalists' when 10-15 years ago the term would have been 'outspoken lunatics.'

People just try and hack it constantly - as in, hundreds of automated hacking attempts per day, and when they succeed, they won't make obvious changes, they'll tweak things gently in a malignant way that won't be noticed for some time.

> you can get the "chat"/discusson part everywhere now (reddit,...),

There's no organic discussion happening on reddit. Even the TV show subreddits are tightly moderated these days. If you try and 'discuss' in a way that invites genuine criticism and isn't just mindless cheerleading of the product on offer you'll find yourself railroaded off the site in short order, and the political/real-world/location subs are an order of magnitude more controlled.

WinVN was always my favourite in terms of UI, but you really needed a local cache server as it had zero offline support.

Is that the same trick alt.sysadmin.recovery used to use?

The adults in these childrens lives don't have the same level of access to these kids as the people on social media. Parents are only human, they can only be 'on' so many hours of the day. The phone and the neverending stream of toxicity is always there waiting for every free moment.
