Has anyone read Infinite Jest?

The whole book feels like Chekhovs gun but it is fun to read!

(I haven't finished it)

No idea, but he does for some reason promote ZCash instead of Monero, and won't even speak of Monero, which is certainly odd.

This one has connected with me recently on that more tribal level!

I was just thinking about this I think you're right. Such small differences in phrasing can have a big difference.

I think a great response would be "That sucks, do you THINK if you spoke to them something would change?" Rather than "have you tried to speak to them?"

The first is a question, that will prompt them to think and then maybe act. The second is a question that is a little accusatory (you should have already spoken to them about it)

Conversation is hard!

You realise GTA V is the most profitable piece of media, ever?

So porn is good for the world and bitcoin bad?

Maybe think about that for a second.

Edit: Downvoted by porn addicts. Lol.

I wonder if the DOJ will try to indict the man behind Signal for similar reasons.

I really don't think these types of restrictions will succeed in western countries when you have people like Elon Musk and Jack Dorsey heavily involved.

If crypto only had the underground attention it had 5 years ago, maybe.

I have to agree it does feel more like a forum. I wonder how HN achieves this.

Those three things are not hard to do or unenjoyable.

You feel better for doing all those things and want to keep doing them as a result usually. I love to lift heavy weights and sleep. Eating healthy not so much but life isn't all about having what you want all the time.

I do differ with the no caffeine past noon though. I don't have too much trouble with caffeine and falling asleep though.

Apart from sleeping well, fitness & diet are tough at first but once you get in the flow they're easy and actually become a part of what you love to do. Just got to find the right workout for you.

Pavlovian effect is pretty strong. Same goes for fitness - put on your working out clothes (have some specified) and you'll want to work out, partially because you will feel stupid if you put on your fitness clothes and don't work out ;).

While it's true about the schools, I don't agree with you on your other points. It seems like PG is cognizant of change around and within him.

It wasn't by pure luck that he started Ycom, and it wasn't pure luck he started Viaweb. With viaweb he had a first mover advantage sure, but had already noticed tech and programming were interesting and changing the world. Ycom, as he said, angel investors didn't exist before Ycom. He almost created the term. Hardly luck.

It's certainly true the moving around schools, the cheap apartments etc is just not possible today.

The context is clearly cryptocurrency here, not cryptography :).

Unlucky I guess.

I would hazard a guess you find crypto overall to be useless.

Perhaps you should compare the usefulness of bitcoin versus Facebook when you consider the energy usage of both, intentional or otherwise.
