Even in the early 2000s, in the aftermath of 9/11, I can remember people in school passing around copies of The Anarchist’s Cookbook.

Perhaps I’ve been naïve, but I’ve always assumed that should one actually want to look up instructions for nearly any sort of horrible thing one could imagine, it could be found fairly quickly using nothing but a little Google-fu.

I would guess a big part of this is because the art _itself_ is a form of compensation: Artists have a passion for the end result in a way that organizations (e.g., corporations, collectives, movements, etc.) harness and take advantage of in lieu of financial compensation.

I enjoyed this one, as well, though I think “Google kills Google” is more likely.

Now we just have to wait and see whether it’s…

“I’d be happy to answer your question… right after a word from our sponsor: Xyeniceli. Side effects may include ...”

OR

ChatGPT: “Why don't you let me fix you some of this Mococoa drink? All natural cocoa beans from the upper slopes of Mount Nicaragua. No artificial sweeteners.”

User: “What the hell are you talking about? Who are you talking to?”

ChatGPT: “I've tasted other cocoas. This is the best.”

Would the adoption of a Deno-like security posture in NPM have mitigated this?

As someone who grew up hearing pledge drives every few months on (ad-free) Christian radio: Would that be an option to fund NPR? Surely those who want to listen/watch/support would donate regularly.

What happened last summer? (I couldn't find anything on it)

> "Also in the UK, Ring users complained on social media that their doorbells were not working."

I sincerely hope that the base functionality of these doorbells (i.e., triggering the ringing of the bell within the home) is preserved in the event of an internet outage.

I do find this kind of analysis fascinating, and yet (personal choice in creative outputs aside) I also find what seems to be the increased use of swearing in blog posts/website copy to be, frankly, lazy.

I feel this about all of the AI notetaking bots that everyone is adding to web meetings these days:

“Welcome to the meeting. Your voice is now being recorded and sent to a server somewhere in the world to be processed by an AI and you have zero control over it. If we were to get hacked, it will be impossible to you know if your voice will be synthesized and used to scam, abuse, or any other nefarious purposes between now and the end of time. Happy meeting!”

I’ve seriously been in meetings with 3+ AI bots from different companies I’ve never heard of.

I’ve never been able to tell if Alex Jones is “real” or just a character. I’ve seen him on Rogan and clips of his InfoWars stuff and he’s just so far off the scale that it makes me wonder if it’s just a very very very weird bit.

It sorta reminds me of George Noory (of Coast to Coast AM fame) where he “believes” everything that anyone calls in about.

I ran a competing project[0] on my home network for a few years before I discovered NextDNS[1]. What I lost in performance (requests don't leave my house) I gained in portability: ALL my devices can take advantage – at home and away – and time-saved. PiHole works 90% of the time, but when it did stop working, I'd have to spend a bit of time fixing it. At $20/year, I simply couldn't compete with NextDNS.

Note: This isn't a shill for NextDNS; I love these kinds of projects and think they absolutely should exist, but NextDNS just happens to be one of those dead-simple SaaS tools that is an insanely good value.
