Ah I can resonate with your feelings! I've been using a MacBook Pro as my daily driver since 2013 and I initially liked it a lot, but things have not improved over time. MacOS got more buggy, bloated and less and less customisable. I never fully got used to the way window switching works, and to the fact that I always see all the apps from all work spaces. I still regularly switch to the wrong work space when I switch apps. So confusing. So now I'm in a process of switching back to Linux - it's just so much more fun! I have an M1 MacBook Pro now and Asahi linux is really nice on this one.
I do like the energy consumption of MacOS and that sleep just works so well. Also the laptops feel really nice. I got a few things to make life easier (sketchybar, rectangle.app, see other posts here) but overall these days Linux is just a more polished experience. Never thought I'd say that. At least it's the least glitchy experience nowadays.
I just installed Asahi on my MacBook Pro M1 - it's really nice! Battery life is supposed to be slightly worse. External displays are now supposed to work as well, but I haven't tried it.
That's not actually true - they're just working on upstreaming all of the code into the Linux kernel. Development is still going strong and M3 will be added soon after upstream work has been done, as it's expected to be trivial. M4 has the added challenge of another security layer, if I understood it correctly, but once that's solved, the rest of the architecture hasn't changed much. Came here to say the same. Founding a company in Germany is way to complicated and expensive... same for dismantling a company. I don't understand why you need a notary for everything.
https://www.pleeboo.com/ is a who-brings-what kind of tool for organising poltucks, school events or any kind of gathering where tasks need to be distributed
Yeah sure wordpress.com or geocities are not self hosted - but you had much more control over your content. People would just link to other blogs they like or comment on their guestbook / comment page. People would host php-forums. In each friends circle (school or hobby groups) there was always at least one kid who would be tech enough to host some php app on a shared hosting, and people would actually use it. But just self-hosting was not really my point, it was the degree of control that used to be common. I'd argue even myspace was much better than what we have today.
From my experience, it used to be quite normal for a lot of my non-technical peers to have a personal webpage on the internet with frontpage express, wordpress or geocities. Nowadays, even a lot of businesses don't have a website, but instead an Instagram or Facebook entry. YMMV
There's a German black-and-white comedy "Die Feuerzangenbowle" from 1944 and most of the actors knew this was going to be their last film. They were drafted into the war right after filming wrapped up and all of them died, apart from the main star.
