1984 is not inspirational, it's cautionary. The main character has already lost from the first page of the book.

If they believe it's OK to cane the kids, why limit it to boys? Girls can also be extremely nasty to each other

Didn't the Dunedin study also find that childhood self-control and delayed gratification correlated with adult life outcomes?

Please fix the integer overflow. Total income over the game was tracked in a 32-bit signed int, so if you earned too much money suddenly the total would turn negative and your stocks would crash.

The problem here is that it is much easier to create bullshit than it is to refute it. At some point you have to stop addressing the points of people who have repeatedly been incorrect, because there are better uses of your time.

A large part of the energy loss in electronics happens in switch-mode Buck-Boost DC-DC converters, as I understand it mainly due to internal resistance in the components used and due to the magnetic field not being directed enough to transfer 100% power between two inductors.

Would a cheap room temperature superconductor bring any benefits here?

My understanding is that the distinction hinges on whether the data is available to a US based employee. Can the NSA show up at a US address and tell the people there to hand over the data? Can this data transfer happen without an EU based person taking some action? If the answer to both questions is yes, the data handling is not compliant.

Of course, IANAL, do your own research, etc.

Coming from a small country, it is amazing to me that an urban area of at least 1 million people is referred to as a village. I consider myself to live in a town and that has only 12000 residents.

I tend to disagree with both points.

I can't read minds. I need people to tell me what works and what doesn't for them. An employment is a continuous transaction, if the situation changes it is absolutely open to re-negotiation. It's on both the employer, the direct manager and the employee to make sure everybody is happy with the arrangement.

And the two times I did hear about problem before the new contract was signed, I was able to find a solution. In the other case there is not much I can do.

As a mid-level manager I do wish people would inform my of any problems before they sign with some other workplace instead of after. I can't fix issues I don't hear about
