The craziest part of the justice system is how dependent on money it is.
I am in a weekly support group for people with the same offense category as me, sometimes crimes not as bad as mine. Most of the members in this group are working class - hourly jobs, no savings, no emergency funds, government lawyers. They mostly had to serve time, had to register as offenders, have strict stipulations.
Meanwhile I was able to borrow money from my parents, got a good lawyer, and all I have to do is check in with probation once a month for a few years.
What surprises be about reddit is that they get advertisers and ads while having one of the largest porn communities.
No one talks about this, and people are quick to say "Tumblr/4chan is just porn!", but not only is there a myriad of porn subreddits, many of them have OC content (people posting themselves), who thanks to reddit's new profile followers feature have a fanbase. One only needs to look at /r/sexsells (NSFW) to see this in action.
With the shutdown of Craigslist personals, people are (using and have been using) reddit for hookups as well. Crazy that they "get away" with the #1 killer of social media platform ad revenue.
I know it's dumb but for some reason the large amounts of Rails people moving to Elixir bother me. I don't want the language to be synonymous with web devs :/
I've been reading the "primary" sources for stoicism, so Marcus Aurelius, Seneca, etc. the book the other commenter recommended is a good start and overview though.
Nothing wrong with being bored. Try just sitting there and think about things rather than pull out your phone as soon as real life is boring. Your attention span will thank you.
In my limited experience the people around my age (22) who hate modern computing are usually social outcasts that hang around in 4chan's technology board or similar forums.
Programming is boring after five years of CRUD/"business"/"enterprise" apps. Unfortunately they make up the majority of the jobs out there but making the effort to get a more interesting job is worth it.
