This looks rad and very user drivrn.

I've been tracking with bibliocommons through my local library, but it has it's flaws. I can add books that any bibliocommons library has indexed, but there's no convenient way to search outside my library.

Sensiron STCC4 uses thermal conductivity sensing thats very compact (4x4x1.2mm). It's pretty new to the market, but maybe in the future it'll happen.

Facebook marketplace also keeps people scrolling which means theres just way more prospective buyers.

Search is bad at finding what you want but good at keeping you searching.

Here in Canada, kijiji(ebay classifieds) was popular and has accounts and ratings. People still have moved to marketplace.

DVDs have pretty good bitrate, just lower res and old codecs. HD would be nice, but as long as you aren't using an old DVD player with composite, they look ok.

Much better than 480p youtube these days.

My local library never made the jump to Blu-Ray and still only has DVDs. They have physical copies of video games too though.

Full pile of standards available here:

https://pub.smpte.org/doc/

There's some really neat ones all the way from film standards to digital cinema

Not surprised to hear this from anal_reactor.

Tragic that with a modern efficiency oriented SoC it still has such dissapointing battery life. Expected an improvement over X series thinkpads.

At least it can charge off a powerbank, but that's pretty standard now.

I am similar. If I physically write a couple times a week, my hand adapts though. It's a skill like any other.

Fountain pens are nice too since you don't need any pressure.

My writing looks a lot better if I just force myself to slow down and be deliberate, but honestly it's a constant battle. I'd definitely benefit from practicing penmanship on it's own.

Powerfulness is measured in watts, it's why I keep my almost 400W 980ti around. :)

Being conparable to the original performance might be a feature on it's own.

Insurance companies don't care what mods you do to your car, even EV swapping, except performance mods. If you tell them you've been doing performance mods, they'll drop you.

Ok, but the models only know what to draw because we fed them images of dementia patients and babies.

Maybe image generators can be a loophole for consent legally, but it seems even grosser morally.

It can't really decode 480p/i very well.

The fact that it has component video out makes it a swiss army knife for everything else 240p/480i/480p.

If you're local library has boardgames, you can check out a bunch of two player games to try out!

My go-to for simple cooperative activity is jigsaw puzzles. Just go at your own pace and enjoy.

CNC machines drove down operator wages. Its similar to the translator example where the machine code is written by someone else, but the person running the machine still needs to understand. Simple pushing the go button is dangerous, being able to adapt is critical.

Jobs where a machinist is in charge of large chunks of the process are rarer. Large shop will have one person setting up many machines to maximize throughput.

> But here’s the kicker > Let that sink in

The biggest tell for AI writing is just being AI adjacent. I've started avoiding reading AI articles here because (surprise) they all feel like a chatGPT transcript.

I agree entirely. Seeing all llm garbage being published made me realize how insecure people are about their writing.

Since realizing, I've been stubbornly improving my own writing and not touching LLMs. Takes a bit of work though.

> Reading it isn't the most fun, but let's face it - most professional reading isn't the most fun. You're probably skimming most of the content anyways.

I find it difficult to skim AI writing. It's persuasive even when there's minimal data. It'll infer or connect things that flow nice, but simply don't make sense.
