In Algeria we call Oranges "tchina" instead of "برتقال" which is funny because the Orange back then originated from China!

I don't think picking the right instance matters that much, Mastodon is a federated social network, you will be able to see what everyone is posting no matter what instance you're on and you can follow people from different instances without any problem.

A more correct translation would be "you wear me out".

I think the entitled artists are generally in it for the fame and what comes with it, that's why most of them think they deserve the special treatment, humble artists actually don't care about that at all, they do it for themselves, they just want to do their thing and lose themselves to the process.

Foreign tourists are always escorted by gendarmes in those places, especially when it shares borders with Libya. Local tourists can visit but some places require an escort.

Do you offer such service for people who live in third world countries too? We are a couple, we live in Africa and want to move to Europe for a better quality of life but we don't want to live in the city. 50k is a bit hard to collect but we can manage if such a service would work for non-americans.

You might wanna check c0d3[0] or fullstackopen[1], they are both free and self paced, c0d3 is opensource and has a nice small community and some mentors/students/engineers always ready to help on Discord. Once you finish the curriculum, you get in engineering team and start contributing back and gain some real world experience.

If you enjoy working in org-mode, you should definitely check out logseq: https://logseq.com/

I forgot to add that logseq is open source, the file encryption feature is built-in (you can opt-in or opt-out) and all the documents are saved locally in md files.

If you are looking for something similar focused on privacy but that leans more towards RoamResearch UX, you can give logseq[1] a try.

>For the mid level position (2-3 years, had done web development, we prefer .Net but will take Java, Rube, Node, etc) we had 150 applicants. 140 of them were fresh grad school grad with no work experience, all needed visa help. OK, threw those out, now down to 10, found 1 of those with decent web development. Hired.

Mind sharing the reasons why you refuse applicants who need visa help? I live a in third world country (It's been the worst, especially with Covid) and I'm 30 now and I'm planning to grind interviews to land a a job in tech in the US, so i was curious why is it so hard to get a work visa.

Thanks!

Yeah, that may be right when you live in a first word country, but why don't you try living in a third world country under the rule of the military where the law is only used to incriminate innocent people because they spoke up against the tyranny and corruption.

Here in Algeria, there are 200 [0] innocent people in prisons because they shared their opinions on the Interwebs. Being a criminal is no longer an excuse, dictators will do anything to stay in power, they don't care if what you're doing is illegal or not, they will silence any individual who stands in their way and you're providing them the means to do so.

Sorry for the late reply, to answer your first question:

How does economy deal with it? If there is no internet there is no banking, no card payments. Most offices will be shut down. How do emergency services operate? Companies can't order goods, or receive orders. It must be even worse than complete lock down because of COVID.
Well, our economy isn't centered around the Internet that much, we have some variant of a local debit card called CIB and those cards aren't allowed to be used online to purchase goods or services, we can only use them to pay the bills and most people use them to withdraw money at the ATMs. Master Card and Visa debit cards are available but the fees are too high, and both have the same restrictions, they don't work when used online. Most orders are done in person, over the phone, via email, or using online stores and paying cash at the delivery.

Also, most people use the CCP service of Algerie Post[0] to send and receive money nationally.

Have you ever been to Algeria? I haven't, but I've been to most other countries in North Africa. They don't live in tents there. The cities are quite developed.
If you've been to Tunisia and Morocco, the banking experience there is far better, they don't have restrictions on the cards.

From my experience those kind of countries moved all their infrastructure far more aggressively online, than the US. Most of the infrastructure wasn't built in the pre-internet era, like in the US or Western Europe, but way later.
Not really, from what i know living here, we already had the infrastructure of phones before the democratization of the Internet, i remember using dialup modems to connect to the internet back in the 2000s.

This happens here in Algeria too, when students pass the Baccalaureate exams, the Internet gets cut daily for a week from 8am to 5pm. It's been like this for 5 years now and nobody seems to care.

You should try logseq[1], been using it for quite some time now and it's coming really well. It is an Open source local-first roam alternative, it supports both markdown and org syntax and it has a lot of features like publishing, encryption, time tracking etc.
