At least here we do have high requirements for burning stuff so you do have proper filters etc.
At the end of the day you probably have concentrated toxins after the burning but handling this shit is probably easier and cheaper than undoing a landfill in 30 years.
We are not landfilling that stuff we are burning it.
And it doesn't matter thats not the issue. The issue is, that plastic is used every single day and its not reused/recycled it gets burned. This not sustainable at all.
the 'big overreaction' comes from the fact, that the weather is changing due to co2 emissions and we are far far away from any sustainable setup while already seeing the impact it has.
Its the 3th year of a draught in germany. Where i never encountered a drought. It is a green country and the trees around me have damages from the drought. When they are dying of, a tree which was growing for 30-40 years will be gone.
The co2 reduction of corona was around 8% and we would need to have 7% every year to combat climate change. 8% was doable with a lot of inconvienience. It doesn't give me a lot of hope when we are not able to recycle fucking plastic.
I grew up in a normal german household on the 'countryside'.
I alwasy recycled. Never thought about it much and my family is not 'alternative or whatever'.
3 Years ago i see a documentation telling me, that dark plastic can't be recycled and gets burned. Thin plastic can't be recycled and will be burned.
We have a system called 'green point' which basically means that the producer has to pay a little bit of money for the packaging they produced so that other company in germany takes it, its called the yellow bin.
So you have your black bin for garbage and you have a yellow bin for the green point which are 99% plastic (pringles has that sign on it as well). I thought, they would have a high recycling rate. Nope 40% of that already recyclematerial is recycled. 60% is just burned.
I could have thrown this shit away uncleaned, unseperated in my normal garbage bin for years and you know what? Everyone around me is doing exactly that.
Don't get me wrong, i will not become a pig, i will still put my plastic into that and sort and clean and recycle but wtf...
Puh you can read the unexperiennce in this blog post in every sentence.
And the most weird thing is, that it feels that he sees himself now as an entrepreneur.
He just might not realize that those snowflakes like Uber or Microsoft are what they are snowflakes.
He will learn that either he becomes very quick and disruptive to an specific industry with a lot of luck and a lot of hard work and then he might have a chance in 1 to 1 million to make it big or he accepts that he just gets used by YC Type of people who are willing to risk something their money, but the personal life comes from the entrepreneur with a small chance of real success.
For every Bill Gates is probably a Million and more People who did not make it.
Its still way easier and much safer and much healtier to try to get into FANNG.
Not saying people shoulnd't try but please understand whats going on, you are not that close to becoming Elen Musk, Bill Gates, Suckerburg etc.
You know, i do get this but we are in IT not in Marketing.
My most used skill is to make sure i'm pedantic aka 'so we need to calculate this from that after this? and we need accuracy of 0.32? And what should that button do exactly?'
It is not SSL its TLS and i don't expect everyone to get it but its still wrong.
The weirdes thing in IT is, that i don't know any other word which is so missused then SSL.
"The danger of not setting a CPU limit is that containers running in the node could exhaust all CPU available."
My assumptions have been:
1. cpu request tells you how much cpu a pod gets MINIMUM always, independently of how much other pods use it or not
2. on GKE you can't request 100% cpu due to google reserving cpu for the node
3. if you have hard limits, your cluster utilisation will be bad -> we do remove cpu limits due to this.
I tolerate religious people. I do believe that those religions put a deep wedge in our society but that has nothing to do what i meant.
I personally will not work/help an organisation which is build around a religion. I'm not a Christ, so why would i go to the Caritas?
My main problem is, with current existing big systems like churches, they put a lot of rules out. Don't be homosexual, they discriminate against females etc.
Now they do have and had a huge number of followeres. We need something similiar and with we i mean people who care about the environment and think its crucial for us to change. And that is more inclusive as the basic rule is not 'do not be religious' its just not based on it.
We do have science in a way, or at least i have as a believe system but 'we' dont have a lobby. We are not organized.
I do think one of the biggest possible changes could be a new religion based on 'working together', sustainability, education etc. but without any god figure.
Build up this religion in form of a hierarchical network. Bring in everyone and give them a chance to do things together.
Make basic rules which do not exclude too many people but make those basic rules clear and do not allow any racist crap, make it clear that its also not here to solve every problem.
I would like to do things and i sometimes clean our park but i'm not religion. I'm not going to a group every week and i will not take part in a social group which is based on religion. But i would love to meet up every week in something like a youth club for adults, etc.
With this network, he would be able to funnel money directly where it could make sense. Like the central club house which also hosts a school, basic internet etc. (more relevant of course in other countries); Add small hostel system to it, people travel around, share and care etc.
One problem Bill Gates has: When he is gone, who really will pursue it like him? I thought its not to relevant who is doing it as someone will do it but it took Bill Gates years to think more like he does now for one thing and on the other side, it needed him to take action when the polio vaccine stagnated.
Did i do anything specific relevant on it which would have required it? Nope.
But boy did i learn things.
If not us as Software Engineers / Tech people, should have something like a home lab?
I have setup a k8s cluster at home; Do i need it? Nope for sure not; Is it nice? Is it running smoothly? Did i learn things? Is it interesting to use and fun? Does it help that it does run 24/7? yes, yes yes and yes.
When i have my own house, i do plan to centralize everything in it in one rack somewhere nice, optic fiber in every relevant room, vlan, backup server/nas etc. Alone something like this does require quite a lot of hardware.
And i think its very nice to have vlan capabilities to seperate that one iot device from the rest of my network.
