By what metric is bun a "really big project"? It seems to have less than 5 consistent contributors. It's not a very popular npm package there's just a larger focus on gaming github stats.

The usecase itself is js on the backend, seems unaligned with zig.

"Oh this girl re-translating The Odyssey in 2017 isn't an ideologue let me just check their bluesky account."

Why would I continue reading lies? What's the benefit for me? You guys act like you didn't spread Gay fanfiction about Ancient Greece for decades. Clowns.

The job of a games journalists isn't to play games or explain games to gamers. It's to explain the social context of a game to a general audience.

If you want a review service or consumer guide then pay for it.

No, that would be OpenAI (or Google if you want to talk technicals). Anthropic's strategy was just let RL on coding and jack up the price. I can only assume their real strategy is to speedrun getting the whole industry turned into a utility.

Good. The goal of tech and services is to save the user time, not waste it, social media and AI chatbots are fraudulent. In Rome if you did this you would get Infamia.

Sure the site, the articles, the program. But sure lets just trust that the author who can't write knows how to benchmark software

In the US? Of course. It's not the FDA's job to make laws. Government needs to stay out of private business.

Design bloggers are about to reinvent the concept of availability https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_availability#Percentage_c...

Software standards are way too low these days. If you can't do at least 5 9s in everything you ship get out of the industry and humanity will be better off.

Game engine programming, more generally projects where the programmer controls the spec and data. More specifically, passing custom allocators to specific subsystems.

That may sound like "Q:why buy this truck? A:Cos it has a nice oil filter" but it marketed as a language "[for the] joy of programming".

Perhaps the goal is to get more people into programming following the same playbook as the scripting wars we had in the 2000s. Or it's part of a larger trend to get mind-share away from c.

Xianxia authors write a mind-boggling amount, probably because some are paid by the character. Surprised Bertrand Russel didn't make the cut.

Maybe in some isolated examples. The larger pattern here is system 1 system 2, language is mostly system 1 and little of the latter. I mean pretty much every programmer I've talked to about this subject claims to not think in language. Many are explicitly taught to think of control flow or objects.

People wouldn't be so obsessed with killing each other if there wasn't at least a bit of truth to economics and life being zero-sum.

Maybe, but unless you are unusually talented I'd advise against it. For every consumer there is a producer and vice versa. Most people are better off as consumers and this give more eyeballs and resources to the few talented producers.

The vast majority of cash transactions are fired by a computer model so the implication are significant. It goes a long way towards explaining why increasingly financialized countries aren't experiencing noticeable real world improvement while also becoming increasingly extractive.

If you give Anthropic money they will make your life worse in another aspect, it's relevant to all their models. The best principle is to not give money to people who want to harm you.

Anthropic has gone past fearmongering and well into terrorism. I think people on Hacker News should not recommend working with terrorist orgs.
