You can see the cultural differences though. One culture has the ability to pool finances and invest its way out of crisis. The other invests it all into exponential humans and conflict. Ideal for spreading in squalid, burned down conditions, non-ideal, when more then spreading is in your definiton of what humanity should strife for.

My pet hypothesis is : That trade networks, in times of collapse- become sort of superspreader networks of downfall. Think about that city state who runs out of food by the sea! It still has all the trading vessels- whats more logic then to go - and take over somebody elses city and ships! Piracy of the damned! Stealing the food from the starving, just to give there families one more day! Following the coast- until you run out of city- and the civilization is gone!It should also not affect the country interior cities - who then would murder the upstart pirates who took over the old capital near the sea..

Oh, but that is what came from the Bauhaus- because back then wood crafted furniture was ridiculous expensive- and these are just the cheapest thing anyone can afford. Bend pipes and one wooden back plate steambend. Clank it out of a factory for 5 $ and everyone be seated.

That is where the hatred for ornamentation originated from- labour was expensive, craftsmen where rare, ornamentation was luxury and a display of wealth disparity. Today everyone could have all the ornamentation he or she wanted. Have your whole insta-history as 3d relief 3d printed as gypsum on your house facade.

But thats still mor expensive then ornamentation. Capitalism loves ugly and hates its customers.

It would burn less, if not all these abstract architects would sit in old art nouveau buildings near a park, with the AC tastefully hidden in the backyard - and there they sit on the MAC, shitting out these etched waver under the ERM buildings and cities for the rest of us to be miserable in.

Its just any dip in surplus supply - leading to a hopeless generation, that leads to a tribal regression. If you have no future, might as well jump the fence and take it. But no matter how in your face the realities and in how many incarnations its visible - even before industrialization, in the ritualized warfare with warchiefs- reality must be denied. The idea, that there are limitations, hardcoded and we are stuck with them for years to come, limiting what humanity can do- is to horrific to be even entertained or accomodated.

It can not even be detached from this racist idea of "only white people can be facist" - as if ISIS, imperial japan or some african warlords are somehow a entirely different level just because they lack the industrial base when society blows up.

Yes, the world is one village. But a medieval village.. there is no lasting progress. Just lived experience preventing repetition, until it does not.

Which has major consequences, if you hand something that is prone to "tantrums" ever more powerfull technologies. It will blow itself up! And if you do not hand ever more powerfull technologies, that thing will throw a tantrum!
