Something I don't see mentioned: I like the aesthetics of shelves of books. I enjoy perusing the shelves when I'm ready to start a new one. I also enjoy shopping used book sales. Here in San Diego, there's a huge monthly used book sale at the North Park library. Every book is $1 and under and it's actually good stuff. I'll probably only read 10% of the books I pick up, but that's okay considering the low cost of each.

I'm at wedding in 2017. The dance floor has opened up and the party begins. Then the "DJ" in charge of music disconnects her phone to take a call - boo, party over. But aha! I take my S8 from my pocket, plug the standard auxiliary cable from the sound system into the headphone jack and push play on a club banger mix. The party resumes. I am a hero. Now it's 2018 and I have a Pixel 3 with no headphone port. I will never be a spontaneous DJ hero ever again....and this makes me sad.

Thank you for sharing this. I am so sorry for your loss. Your writing really spoke to me. I immediately texted my wife to tell her how much I appreciate and love her. Having kids really does a number on a relationship. The routine and obligations are exhausting and tedious. Thank you for the reminder to zoom out and be grateful for all that she is and does.

Here's what my family does: We hired an older woman (from thumbtack.com) to come to our house once a week for 4 hours and cook whatever is in the fridge. I make sure to have plenty of food in the fridge, spices, canned goods, etc. Then she cooks enough food for my 4 person family for about 5 - 6 days (excluding breakfast). She knows our preferences and takes requests. We pay her $25/hr ($100 week). I feel like everyone interested in these meal services should really just have a personal chef. Way better than these pre-made meal services because you have complete control over ingredients and meal types.
