As someone with a light background in social psychology, I have to say that nothing presented here falls into line with anything I have ever studied or learned. I would love for the author to provide references or links to any studies or any proper research that corroborates the claims.

Note that holding one of several financial licenses, such as a series 7 license, makes one eligible to be considered an accredited investor. Net worth / income is not the only path to attaining this status.

Spot on. In theory, it is a fantastic idea to send mental health professionals, without any guns or self defense tools, or any bodyguards (police) to an ambiguous high-intensity crisis situation that seems like it involves psychological distress. In reality, when those professionals come face-to-face with, for example, someone high off of bath salts or PCP, they might have to abandon the scene due to the imminent threat to their lives, which then results in both the drug user and random passerby being placed into harms way due to the government not sending a full complement of healthcare + police professionals to the scene.

I disagree. All problems you mentioned are fundamentally hard. It is unfair to say that a logistical challenge is easier simply because it involves refrigeration at scale as opposed to research, weapons development, or computing at scale.

I agree. I think sometimes it is hard to fully understand how complicated logistics can be. I mean that’s why people study logistics in school and companies pay money for professionals well versed in logistics.

I feel like this is unnecessarily condescending towards the parent comment. There have been at least a few cases in US history of medications / vaccines having some amount of long term side effects that were not known until a few years had elapsed.

I wasn’t aware of this. Looked it up and this in fact true. I imagine people from other countries are in fact weary of the US vaccine for this or similar reasons

I believe what is meant here is that the alternative is to have a highly developed capacity for abstract thought that you then use to collaborate with your species to develop antibodies in a laboratory (humans are an example of this, although we don’t rely upon this mechanism)

It’s far more convenient to propose affirmative action plans than to address the elephant in the room, which is that generally speaking, being a poor person in a poor community with a poorly funded school makes it difficult to compete academically with individuals who were raised in environments with more resources across the board (ie better teachers, safer communities, and more parental involvement due to not having 2 stressed out working-class parents).

Why don’t we simply address the quality of children’s lives and schooling in those less affluent communities?

I disagree, I read it as “it is not necessary to ensure that property remains unscathed from the eviction process, thus an untrained crew removing someone’s possessions from their former home is a reasonable/sensible idea”

I think this author is in fact correct that science isn’t typically concerned with absolute, eternal truths but rather circumstantial truths or whatever hypothesis best maps onto available evidence.

One of the hallmarks of critical thinking is being able to move past black-and-white reasoning. Critical thinking entails comprehension of the ambiguity and gray area present within most debates. Any individual who feels as though there exist ideas which are irrefutable even in the face of many other similarly viable explanations is clearly not thinking rationally.

I’m sure radar has indeed recorded objects in the air going very fast and turning rapidly, but as mentioned in the article, there is likely additional context which has been omitted. Thus, I don’t feel any need to fact check this individual, as there is no need to verify such a vague claim which lacks almost any context whatsoever. Hopefully both author and reader understand that claims made without context or citations are not meant to be interpreted as authoritative, definitive examples.

I think the angle this article takes reflects a slight misunderstanding of the conclusions that would be made in the event that psychiatry placed more emphasis on evolutionary reasons for extant behaviors and/or neurological structures seen in humans today.

For example, barring indirect enhancement of fitness which homosexuality may bring to one’s kin, evolutionary psychology would likely determine that any sexually reproducing organism which does not mate with the opposite sex clearly is displaying aberrant/incorrect behavior which is essentially “diseased” by extension.
