We are still working on a solution for the replacement chargers, but unfortunately it is a lengthy process. Don't worry we didn't forget about it and will be in touch once we have a solution!
According to a poll by the National Sleep Foundation, 53% of teens take naps to cope with insufficient sleep. This is symptomatic of the problem and it does not just stop at teens. 44% of adult take naps to cope with insufficient sleep. For more info about sleep checkout http://blog.wakemate.com/
We have worked quite a bit on battery life and will continue to. Right now you can use the WakeMate for 2 solid nights and then you will need to recharge.
The issue with battery estimation occurs when you do not fully charge the unit (as we indicated to him) and we are currently working on improving the estimation even further.
We do support a vibration alarm on the phone and if you only want to use the analytics you can just set an alarm for the middle of the day as a fix until we release the analytics only fix.
The review unit that engadget was given was a beta unit. We made the reviewer aware of this and unfortunately he didn't cut us any slack.
As he mentioned we fixed the bugs that we was experiencing. Also we should not that he was using an Android unit, which was the most buggy of all the platforms. The UX on the iPhone and Blackberry for review units, was much more stable.
The only people who have received WakeMates thus far are our beta testers and investors. We will be getting units off the factory line this week. Please check the blog for details.
aeontech is correct - the point of the product is not to change your schedule, but to maximize the efficiency and quality of the sleep you do get given your schedule.
The Android/Blackberry version of the WakeMate has its own bugs which we have been resolving. The Apple certification has nothing to do with the Android release.
The science of monitoring motion for sleep analysis is called Actigraphy and necessitates the sensor being placed on the user's wrist. WakeMate prototyped a 'phone only' solution and it was very inaccurate and therefore never released.
We want to be at transparent as possible and really keep our customers informed. We took a lot of heat for not telling people what was going on and everyone is a lot happier now that they understand more about the process.
Original wristband: too big, too heavy, not something I want to wear to bed and the electronics bulge out too far.
New wristband:much smaller, much lighter, made of "pillowy" material and hides the electronics.
Overall it is a much more comfortable wristband and a much better user experience.
While the original may have been a little "flashier" we did not want to sacrifice UX for looks, especially when you are only going to be wearing this to bed.
As for our homepage - we need to get the final version of the wristband photographed and then we will be implementing a full design change of our homepage.
Greg from WakeMate here - Because we have not publicly shipped any units yet, there are no reviews of units just yet. We will be shipping out the first units at the end of the month so you should be seeing some reviews soon. More detailed information will be posted to our website and blog.
The axbo uses similar technology and works well, but it is much more expensive, more difficult to use and less comfortable. Also they do not do any of the sleep analysis and personalized recommendations on how to improve the quality of your sleep.
