That was a slim majority of who voted at the time. Leave voters heavily skewed older. Even just taking out the people who have died since the vote would result in a remain vote. 15 years worth of younger voters would overwhelmingly vote for remain.

Unless they change their minds in the meantime.

No, they are your personal criteria. Your “gripes” as you said.

> And it's also the criteria of millions of other users who have not switched to Signal because of the bugs, quirks, and lack of basic features for a modern messaging app.

You have absolutely no knowledge that this is why people haven’t switched, indeed it’s highly unlikely that it would have been as successful as it has if this were the case. People move to Signal because they distrust Facebook and telegram.

The more logical explanation is simply network effects and inertia. Occam’s razor.

Ok, but that means your criteria for a basic messenger app is something that does everything that all the other messaging apps do.

WhatsApp seems like a non-starter based on this list of complaints. It’s hard to imagine someone who doesn’t trust Moxie, but does trust Zuck.

It’s a complex app. There is no reason it shouldn’t use something specific to 16.2.

If you are suggesting it could have been backported, that’s probably true, but by that logic most software has ‘artificial limitations’.

That said, from what I can tell this is part of 16.2 - I.e. it’s a new built-in app on a par with notes or photos. The store entry is just a way to get it back on the Home Screen if you delete it.

You’re not wrong. They look absolutely terrible, and frankly, much worse than just using Word or Pages.

A big reason why people love TeX is the quality of the output.

The only one of these that is a ‘bug’ is the failure to ring on android.

The rest are all feature requests.

That said, it’s interesting to see what people think are basic requirement for a messaging app these days.

China is already moving full steam ahead to develop their own domestic technology because they don’t want the US to be able to sanction them.

This move is not short sighted. It is simply about not giving China the IP they want to copy. China will get there anyway, just a little slower.

> Someone identifying as a musician will get more accolades from one's peers than a plumber and therefore feel that their passion is in the music.

Identifying as a musician won’t get you accolades. Playing music that people enjoy will.

A smart insight is that music improves people’s lives even under materially poor conditions. This is why for example, black slaves in America originated many of the most beloved musical styles.
