One major limitation is the cost. It costs lots of money to train teachers and pay them good salaries. What leading countries are doing currently might not be sustainable for the long run. Cognitive abilities also different greatly from people to people in different discipline. There is no silver bullet.

These CPUs are typically implemented as lockstep pairs on the same die. In a lockstep architecture, both CPUs execute the same operations simultaneously and their outputs are continuously compared. As a result, the failure rate associated with an undetected erroneous calculation is significantly lower than the FIT rate of an individual CPU.

Put another way, the FIT (Failure in Time) value for the condition in which both CPUs in a lockstep pair perform the same erroneous calculation and still produce matching results is extremely small. That is why we selected and accepted this lockstep CPU design

Standard approach is following ISO 26262 development to deal with risk resulting from failure mode.

formal methods has value in safety related software. When you are developing software for airplane, rail, automobile and nuclear power station, any tools that might improve safety merit consideration.

Nokia had made Maemo success then they might had a chance.

I am not sure Android could have saved Nokia. Samsung survived in smart phone business because of their display and memory. Chinese smart phone makers was able to compete because of the enormous support from CCP. I was on another oil platform call "HTC" when Nokia platform was "burning". Eventually HTC went down too.

High hardware quality is always important but it is not enough to build a moat to stop the competition. I remember a Siemens quality manager told me the high hardware quality of Siemens's phone when HTC was building a phone for Siemens. High hardware quality did not save Siemens's phone business either.

I use to work for HTC. I was there when iPaq launched and saw the birth of first PocketPC phone, a black and white screen phone for Sagem/Mitsubishi. I would like to share my opinion on this issue of tech disruption. From my point of view, Nokia did not have enough resource and time to meet the challenge which was brought about by Apple and Google/Android. All the tech companies need at least one dominating advantage in order to survive. This dominating advantage needs to crush all challenger in that specific area. Apple has operating system. Samsung has display. Chinese phone makers have CCP. Nokia had nothing that matter. They had two choices, create one or buy one. They were not able to do either so they fade away.

All the machines have been pre assembled and tested in Taiwan. The installation should go faster than anticipated.

They try to minimize labor cost in the US. Salary and overtime pay are much lower in Taiwan so they try to use the engineering resource in Taiwan as much as possible.

Buddism has always adopt in order to stay relevant. There are many ways to achieve enlightenment. Maybe US Buddhists will find their own unique path forward.

There are line that we should not cross and this is one of them. What CCP has done is inhuman.

How do they plan to get through ISO 26262 verification? You do not need to do HARA to know ECU is ASIL D. ASIL D Item requires developer to do Modified Condition and Decision Coverage. Running through all the test cases will be a huge task. The golden rule for Automobile Software is simplicity. Always keep it simple unless it is absolutely necessary. They need to read through ISO 26262 chapter 6.

Actually CCP is doing everything they can to stop the outflow of money. CCP wants to keep the money inside of China but not very successful. There is no rule of law in China and people with money in China want to put money in place where government can not take it away from them. As CCP tighten control, money will keep flowing out by any mean possible.

I think this application is great! 30 years ago, I emigrated to US when I was 13 years old. I knew only 26 letters and maybe one hundred words. I had to bring up my language skill up to high school level within few years so I can graduate high school and kept my grade good enough in order to enter college. Retain vocabulary through reading is what works for me. It is difficult to remember words without context. Back then, I started with toddler's book then progressed to young adult science fictions. I enjoyed the fastest progress with young adult fictions. I think what you created is very helpful for kid. I will try it out with my son. I am back to Asia now and try to teach my son English.

Vocabulary acquisition is not easy. Human remember things through story. Initial phase of the vocabulary acquisition is very difficult since you need to remember one word at the time and it is very easy to forget. Once you have enough vocabulary to read sentence and progress to understand story then you have better chance to retain vocabulary at faster pace and less likely to forget the word.

Listening is also a skill that people overlook. You need to train the ear to pick up how people pronounce a specific language otherwise it will just sound like noise. Let me give you an example: I have a 4 years old son. He likes cartoon. English speaking cartoon sounds like garbled noise to him. I know because he try to recreate the conversation and it came out like garbled noise. I prompt him with some word with Chinese translation before he watch video then gradually he can recognize the word in the video and gave me correct translation after I asked him.

The author of this article might have a language learning system that works for him but this article is not helpful for language learner. Learning a foreign language is a complicated process due to different needs of individual learner. The author makes a sweeping statement without detail description of the learning process is not helpful for people who might want to try his way of learning.

Let me give an example what different student background and learning environment will impact the learning process. I know very little English when I emigrated to US when I was 13. I started high school after 6 months in the US. The school had no Chinese speaking teaching staff( Mandarin is my native language). Since I do not know much English to begin with. I don't think anyone can teach me English using what Author proposed. I built up my vocabulary one word at the time until I know enough word to understand young adult novels. Reading many young adult novels helped to increase my vocabulary quickly and I was able to catch up within 3 years and managed to graduate from high school and enter University.

My English deteriorated after I have been back to Asia for 20 years but hopefully I get my point across.

I agree, vocabulary is the most important part. I emigrated to US when I was 13 and I understand English very little at that time. I remember how difficult it was to read the textbook in high school. It took 3 years to catch up. It is just impossible to understand without know what the words mean.
