Wow, that is one well-documented migration project! Thanks for sharing, I wasn’t aware they are so seriously on it.

You can look up who the contributors are, e.g. in their open-source repo: https://codeberg.org/comaps There are also issues and projects with lots of discussions about what to prioritize, etc. So, bashing that “community” is too fuzzy is perhaps not very warranted. (Although I guess they should add a section “Who makes CoMaps?” to the FAQs or so.)

I thought we’re talking about Building Relationships for a second. https://store.steampowered.com/app/2666920/Building_Relation...

You can check this crowdsourced list for the compatibility of banking apps: https://github.com/PrivSec-dev/privsec.dev/blob/main/content...

Authenticators should work normally, as far as I know (unless Google Authenticator does anything special). Can’t say anything about Google Wallet. There might be more lists/forums where people share which setups are (not) working well for them.

In general, I had these concerns as well until a few months ago. But I am much more optimistic these days that things will just work well out of the box (have read many positive sentiments in blog posts and here on Hacker News).

I’m sure the general premise around AI-generated code is accurate. That being said, I’ve definitely had interesting moments where e.g. Claude produced code that matched the pre-existing codebase quite nicely, and slowly started building up its memory of how new pieces fit into the codebase in an idiomatic way. Then again, it started to throw in Tailwind-based CSS classes all of a sudden, because it assumed that Tailwind had been set up (it wasn’t).

> IMO the maintenance story is more or less solved if you can keep AI agents refactoring and improving it in a loop.

That’s a weak argument, though, if the future of AI is totally unreliable when it comes to cost and quality. Right now I definitely wouldn’t want to depend on being able to infinitely access AI tools for such an important part of the toolchain.

Aside from that it’s just not attractive to trust a project made by one person.

Did they? Genuine question, because I do wonder if people in some industries in the past were ever anxious about these specific things (especially skill attrition).

Works well for me! Have been using Kagi for well over a year now. (I assume you’re talking about the German search results, not their German UI.)

You mean the search results are loading slow? I’ve sometimes noticed that, but not really to a degree that it was significantly worse than Google.

Yes.

I had the same worries! It’s great to be positively surprised that it’s all good news in Obsidian’s case.

That workflow just sounds exhausting to me. Would I always need to consider how much of a blast radius my AI-generated code might have? Sounds like there’s so much extra management going into these micro decisions that it ultimately defeats the purpose of generating code altogether.

I could see value in using it during the prototyping phase, but wouldn’t like to work like you described for a serious project for end users.

There are a lot of points in there that are just generally bad in modern applications – e.g. UI inconsistencies, lack of automation and general configurability (shared ways to handle windows, layouts, keyboard shortcuts, etc.). I think it’s fair to say these things are just hugely lacking in modern operating systems. Linux might come close, but only with lots of tinkering. macOS is clearly lost and degrading now, and Windows was never close to having these qualities.

I don’t know if TUIs will be the answer, but it’s an interesting development!

Sometimes it’s just about using the path of least resistance. I’ve also contributed to Apple Maps’ and Google Maps’ data, even though I’d prefer to exclusively contribute to OSM and other open platforms instead. But, it was just easier to go through a quick form in the (Apple|Google) Maps app, because that’s where I was at that point in time. Maybe the excuse is laziness and/or force of habit?

Edit: I also imagine the reach of the mainstream platforms to be much higher (e.g. Windows vs. Linux or Google Maps user reviews vs. <is there even an alternative?>).

Maybe the GitHub comments didn’t properly load due to the weekly partial outage.

They have at least the Q11 as a split keyboard model. Or did you mean something else?

Nice idea! Let’s hope that some other platform executes this (let’s be honest, Spotify doesn’t care about humans in any way).

Depends on the kid’s hobby and purpose of the computer. I’ve always known that MacBooks are better for music making (especially driver hassle, audio signal reliability, etc.). Could I afford a MacBook as my first laptop? No. Did I buy a second-hand MacBook as soon as I could afford it, and have been happy with it since? Yes. As a teenager, I would’ve loved to buy a new MacBook for 500/600€.

I’m sure most other applications are less Mac-optimized, though (software development, 3d/graphics editing, gaming, …).

Thank you for that! I find it really daunting to try a new editor, but having a vs code extension as an entry point really helps me and increases the chances of trying it out soon!

I wouldn’t put too much hope into foldables, at least not because of Apple’s involvement. They also released the Vision Pro. And there’s still the unsolved(?) problem of the screens getting easily scratched/destroyed if they’re not heavily protected and kept clean. (There are some informative teardown videos, e.g. by JerryRigEverything.)
