All this fanboy crap makes me puke, for the worlds greatest snake oil salesman, who made a career out of stealing the work of others and claiming his precious poser company created it.
"Stealing Ideas is a way of life" Jobs made a pretty good career out of stealing the work of others and falsely claiming it as his companies own. There is a special circle in hell waiting for him.
Combined with the new style F2P MMORPGS, where cash shops allow people to advance to the end, and old school game play is dead, dead, dead.
Welcome to the world of micro-transactions, where yokels end up spending the price of a car where they used to just fork over $70 to $120 a year subscriptions.
They also pretty much skipped over the whole dumbing down of most games, from open world sandboxes, to fairly narrow tunnel crawls. It's all about cutting costs, and then rationalizing it with all this psycho babble. Korporations simply want to do to games what they have done to most consumer products, water it down as much as possible to maximize profit.
Compare the most recent Duke Nukem to the original and you will see this is true.
Its a shame the tools in charge of this mess have adopted the tea party mindset no doubt acquired through addiction to Faux News and the Faux News echo chamber.
Take note, Hacker News seems to be turning into teaparty News, and all it takes is for a few more teaparty articles to show up in the first page, and i am out of here.
The author is too kind. Most proprietors of these things are 100% about food and service, and have no clue when it comes to tech. They tend to be very opinionated and tend to slough over anything outside of their core activity. They consider web sites just animated menus, and as such are suckers for sites as mini movies. Then tend to be action and not analysis oriented, so maybe after a few years of fail web sites, they will eventually stumble on what works instead of throwing money at pretentious wanna be movie makers.
I think this so called game sucks. Its like Dwarf Fortress, or even Linux, there is a group, (small) that likes the challenge of making something poorly documented work. Compulsive puzzle solvers are attracted to it like flies to honey. I am not one of those, so this game does zip for me.
Technically correct, but the job situation is much much worse, and this band aid will not fix it. Fascism has established itself globally and is in the process of reducing everyone to penury while the few at the top of the Fascist pyramid of power get fatter.
Pluleez no more PC baloney. Hire the best person for the job. Profile hiring of the minority of the day only screws and punishes the majority of job seekers. Two wrongs don;t make a right.
You know what you get when you promote women. Lezbos who only promote other obese Lezbos or men who are wannabe lezbos.
This is truly hilarious. Banks (private businesses) have a little practice called the 5% reserve rule. They basically make money out of thin air, and legally may loan out all the money they care to create as long as they have at least 5% in real assests somewhere.
Newsflash republican dimwits: Our government does the same thing, except we tell it what to fund and we have no 5% requirement. If we want to go on creating money, we dam well will. Bankers do it every day. They just HATE it that we can do the same via our government.
Fallacy No. 1 in this article. Researchers in ivory towers don't have to worry about access, their institution pays for it. NOT anymore. Sub rates are going through the roof, and most schools are drastically cutting back database subscriptions. Talk about throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Some bean counter goes home smiling for a quarter while civilization crumbles and they are retrired before the folly they created bears the fruit of debased scholarship.
The old Yahoo, Google and Craig's List showed over and over that simple headlines and text lists, are the most dense and useable designs, efficient and readable.
The problem is the marketing types who feel that they have to 'brand' their product and then abandon the simple dense text list display, that people time and again vote for with their feet.
To a marketing droid, the text list display is the horror of horrors. With it, they live and die by the quality of the reporting, not the slickness of their graphic designs.
This is just pathetic drivel to sooth the guilt this guy has over having a job that essentially does nothing but pose as a court philosopher in the upper echelons of a certain mega-corp while most of humanity scrabbles about trying to make ends meet.
Just another grognard game. Minecraft scratches the grognard itch something that most players lack, but a few, at least enough to put this game on the map, exist.
The games lack of direction and decent documentaion is a huge part of the appeal to grognards. They love tons of options and they love to guess what each one does and are more than happy to try out their hunches come what may.
A replica of the Star Trek Enterprise, how... geeky.
Personnally this so called game holds zero appeal to me and the sooner it slips into oblivion. Speaking of which. If you ever find this quasi 3d early 90s game in a bargin used bin, get it.
