But that’s my favorite drug name, despite its antiquity. There’s just such a goofy mismatch between something that sounds like magical fairy sparkles from heaven, and a drug that lets you fight six cops at the same time and win.

JetBrains products are excellent, I have both personal and work subscriptions. I wish MPS would catch on, though; it’s really exciting technology that way too few people are using, for some reason.

Whether or not it’s legal, you probably wouldn’t live long enough to enjoy your profits.

That seems like a pretty harsh thing to say - intoxicated driving has also ruined quite a few lives.

IIRC, their argument is that marketing builds brand awareness, and brand awareness is a capital good.

It’s not normal, and neither is WeWork, nor Adam himself. There’s something of a cult around him: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=20149800

Or pull a Groupon and just completely redefine several accounting concepts, e.g. list marketing costs as capital expenditures.

Does the S-1 disclose the fact that the founder is also one of the company’s biggest business partners? He buys up properties and then leases them to WeWork. Seems like a red flag to me.

It's been said is some of the articles I mentioned that Uber's business plan is to profit of drivers who are financially illiterate, until those people either wise up or break. That seems like hyperbole, but if there is a kernel of truth to it, that would explain your observation.

There’s the common impression - misconception? - that driving for rideshare companies is a losing game, and that drivers end up making very little money after fuel, repairs, and depreciation. For a while, it seemed like every day there was another article breaking this down and “exposing” Uber and Lyft.

Having never driven for them, I can’t verify whether this is true, but just a quick back-of-the-envelope guess seems like drivers in the Bay Area could average $40 - $50 an hour. That doesn’t seem like minimum wage level to me.

Apple’s denial was quite strong as well, though brief. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Bloomberg article retracted someday.

The more I speak to scientist and engineers from sub-Saharan Africa, the more hate I hear for China. It’s hard to comprehend.

The United States is having a trade war with China partially because of this kind of thing.
