What's the practical use?

Kong... Kong... Didn't this one Firebase clone use Kong API gateway? Supabase, yeah that one.

This is all untrustworthy.

Reading this issue, I hope they go broke.

But but if all of Wikipedia fits on a USB drive, what do they need the millions and millions of Dollars for? /s

The EU is .. has become such a dystopia that I'm scared living in the EU.

It starts with the basics, the Lisboa treaty. It goes on with the recent "copyright" reform and their ever increasing need to know everything about the people who live in the areas the EU oversees.

I'm especially scared that the laws of the EU are such that we the people can't do anything to change what "those up there" decide.

Just a recent example, the Russiaphobia. I'm absolutely against confrontation, against censorship and sanctions, yet the EU rulers, which are no more than US puppets are just pushing this agenda, confrontation, war, propaganda, increased military spending. We can't afford a 2nd cold or hot war. But those idiots push and push and agitate and keep making stupid decisions. I feel like my life is wasted because it's always the same old world domination by the US and the EU must follow everything the US says. I'm so sick of it.

When you have such a hostile and unjust system in place that acts against the interests of its population, of course there are local right wing political parties that take advantage of that. This political system is encouraging nationalism and racism because it's built on a non-democratic basis.

The digital ID is just yet another step in the direction of the abusive relationship this "EU" has with its "subjects".

I'd have to disagree. I tried docker compose and swarm. nothing but issues. I went back to old fashioned bash

what's wrong with git clone go build systemctl restart my-service

Why would I want to proxy through docker?

"they" never learn because it's too complex to setup and maintain.

A managed service is too expensive, up to factor 200 prices for outgoing traffic vs a dedicated server with flat traffic (e.g. Hetzner)

> Trying to rebuild that basic functionality using ad hoc solutions takes way more time and rapidly becomes more cumbersome as the wheel gets reinvented when k8s as a platform has well documented solutions/tools.

That is just not true. 1 day if you know what you're doing. If you use a well performing language you won't even need scaling for a very long while, unless you expect like "Eurovision Song Contest" type of concurrent users.

Running your own DNS isn't as hard as you think

Try setting it up on your own without Ubuntu doing the legwork. Set up a 3 node control pane, the deployment servers and storage.

You come off as very arrogant who believes he knows everything, some humility would suit you well, but I think all pseudo smart Germans are like that.

the devil is in the details, they all look easy on the surface but there are so so many traps you can step into casually that they really aren't solutions for the k8s being too complex problem.

k8s IS complex, not because it's new, which it isn't anymore, but it's so complex that even the developers have lost oversight.

And not just that, it's expensive. It requires a lot of hardware just for the base, 9 servers minimum.

The more complex something gets the harder it is to get done right.

I would downvote you if I could because what you wrote is just ignorant and anyone who dealt with k8s before can tell that you never dealt with it.

The PROBLEM is that all the job ads require you to have those skills that are impossible to very expensive to acquire if you're not employed at such a company that lets you experiment with that stuff you mentioned.

I write monoliths and I have only experimental experience with cloud, microservice, k8s, lambdas (no-sql is a no brainer). I can not find a job. All the recruiters offering any Go job, demand knowledge of exactly that. But since I'm a single guy with a currently non-existant budget I chose the cheapest way, monolith with a single database on a single server.

How am I supposed to acquire those skills? I don't have the time, motivation or the money to throw at expensive cloud or write overly complicated microservices with events. I need to get things done, not play with tech that my clueless employer wants, because they watched so Kelsey Hightower video.

I'm totally done with Samsung. Their TVs are overpriced and bad, their phones add undeletable bloatware, remove useful stuff like headphone/mic jack, have low battery life and capacity and they force you to buy the flagship model, if you don't you'll receive a really small battery that even in the flagship model is not large enough. If you don't buy Galaxy series you won't even be able to mirror output via USB. And software support is really short. Even if the hardware works, they want you to buy a new phone 5 years later.

Likewise their TV OS is subpar and region locked, not that Android is any better or the other OSes.

All the TVs right now are really bad and not worth the money. My price limit was 600€. I ordered 4 TVs and returned them all, the worst was a "TCL" TV which had such a weak CPU that it couldn't even decode a 2MB/s SD stream.

Recently Samsung had a bad batch of SSDs and they sold them via Amazon and despite them knowing that the batch was bad it wasn't pulled, instead they lowered the price. One guy bought 8 , 5 died and 2 were in spare mode and despite them being from the same batch the refused to replace the 2. Imagine buying a 4TB SSD, copying your stuff over from the old HDD to have it die 2 months later.

Live a normal life again.

It would be a blessing for humanity.

I fondly remember the times before the internet was a thing.

People would have to learn to deal with people again, face to face.

It would be a better world.

Sorry but I don't believe it.

In the very beginning of the South African variant there was a report that it wouldn't protect against it and other variants. They're the most expensive vaccine and they want to keep selling their product.

I just lost faith in anything. When politicians make a profit from a prolonged emergency situation they have no reason to shorten the pandemic period. I'm talking about German politicians getting a commission on masks, and them being the ones who decide which kinds of masks are required. It's all so corrupt.

I'm waiting for the Russian and/or Chinese vaccine, maybe travel to Serbia to get my Sputnik V shots, since the EU is playing it political. About a month ago they were even suggesting that "Can we trust the Russian vaccine or is it a Trojan Horse" I mean, suggesting that the Russians would knowingly kill the population of the EU. How through and through Nazified is Germany?

Why would I pick the Sputnik V one over all others? Because they have prior knowledge and are doing 2 vectors (I'm not an expert but I read something about them doing ... well 2 vectors so the virus can't develop a resistence against the vaccine). I trust the Russian government more than my own, who has time and against lied and deceived me, even denounced what we were demonstrating against the new copyright laws and upload filters. The EU is corrupt through and through and they walk over dead bodies. Especially this new EU council lead by Ursula von der Leyen.

Who even elected her? No one that's who. She has a past where she was involved in a corruption scandal and the phone with evidence on it, a state owned phone, was magically erased just when the evidence was to be secured.

So yeah I don't trust anything that's developed in the EU and much less GB who voted pro those harmful "copyright" laws so they could have an advantage when they brexitted.

Astazenica kills people. A Vaccine that kills people. WTF. And politicians are debating that it should now be used on the elderly, because hey fuck the elderly right, they're old and almost dead anyway...

I can't eat how much I could puke.

I've been trying to find a job in Germany. It's either

- Event driven cloud master with k8s and docker knowledge - PHP developer, but Typo3, Magento or Wordpress - Tool user, actually not a real developer but a semi designer

Then there's the - Frontend developer master of virtually everything, studied, knows all the languages and is a designer as well - Backend developer Python, Java, less Ruby, much PHP with Symfony and/or Zend

All of those make me blergh

Oh and they pay 3-4k € which is an insult.

I have given up. Once my cash runs out I'm taking social security and die a depressed bitter man.

Being self-employed the internet is owned by the big companies and everything is getting harder as time passes. Not because of tech, but companies and regulations.

For instance BaFin, the Germany regulatory institution for finance. I wanted a certificate so I could automate bank account checks, because FinTS3.0 now requires a OTP for every action you do. So no more automated bank account checks. Now you need XS2A which requires a certificate and registration. The cert costs a sum every 2 years, which the German state printshop receives (Bundesdruckerei). I asked them how I can register, I want to register, tell me how please. After 3 mails which were sent over 2 months I'm none the wiser. Yet I see over 500 companies already registered. I don't have a German name, that's probably why.

Next example. I have a website that compares dsl cable fiber tariffs. The domain is old has I partnered with all kinds of telcos via the Zanox affiliate network. Something happened, they rebranded to Awin and the partnership was cancelled. I've then recently redone the site, made it more modern. Every Telco except the German Telekom accepted the affiliate application. Only the German Telekom declined for NewSpeak reasons that don't explain anything at all.

Thanks to the corrupt Axel Voss the EU has redone copyright and put hosts in jail with 1 leg. If you're a host, you allow people to post messages on your leased hardware and one of the free users posts something illegal, you will be liable for what the user had posted.

So what's left? Writing 10 Best x/y/z spam articles?

I'm overqualified and underappreciated. I have written distributed systems out of necessity, not because it was hipster. I've had top 1000 alexa ranked sites. If I had them nowadays I could make a living, but back in 2006 they barely paid the hosting costs.

What can I do anymore? I don't know. Take some shit job just for the money? Pretend I'm interested in their crap? I really don't care. I can't work under someone. I can't accept someone being my boss, in the negative sense. I also don't like people. People suck. Too many negative experiences with them. Especially work people. I don't want to live in an environment where you have to watch every word you say. And 15-20 years ago society was much more tolerant for negativity. Nowadays you have the politically supercorrect kids. Look at Stallman, HOW DARE HE. I mean WTF. So he returns and Red Hat of all companies is like "ZOMG THE NERVE" because he questioned the integrity of the 17 year old girl? What bullshit. And this is just symptomatic for today's society. When I see those glass wearing shaved haircuts I'm becoming aggressive, with a suit preferably. Whatever I'm rambling and am a bit drunk.

Well... I didn't expect much from the game and received that, a good game that felt unfinished and too short.

I also called it when I saw the trailers and presentations. They promised more than any team could deliver in that timeframe. Then they postponed it and it was clear that this game will be released buggy and unfinished.

Witcher 3 was so big and also boring that I never got to finish all the quests. CP2077 is the opposite. Too short but exciting. I don't like game like GTA, yet CP2077 captured me and I couldn't stop playing until I've done ever quest that wasn't buggy, except the fighting quests. The opponents just always kicked my ass.

And now reading about patch 1.2 I think, who cares, it's like sex with your ex or cold coffee. Been there done that, moving on.
