My default layout has function keys as basically an "fn" key plus the appropriate number. I thought I was going to miss the dedicated keys way more than I do in practice.

If I were starting from scratch, and really had a function-key-centric workflow, I'd probably make the number keys (and - and + for F11 and F12 respectively) be tap-and-hold for that function key input.

I love my moonlander, don't get me wrong, but I've also recently gotten a RealForce R3, and I love it, too. Very nice for a daily driver work keeb.

Not within the given time period. Only two there.

What if I told you that prison is also corporal punishment?

Nah… 2.5x diff. :P

That was two $500/mo servers, not $2500/mo.

The hole (like in IRL golf) has a flag in it. :)

The Overview button helps get an idea of where to go.

Therein lies the rub: they didn't buy them... They pirated digital copies of them.

I haven’t had that yet.

I tried again this week, and CoPilot Plan Mode read the same 5-line markdown file 18 times over the course of 5 minutes of churning on a simple request, then provided zero value over what I posed in the request itself, and hallucinated things about my terraform repo that were just flat-out wrong.

As an Infrastructure/Cloud engineer, I’m far from worried about AI coming for my job.

Nah… they killed WMR in it, which I need for the only reason I’m running Windows in the first place: iRacing in VR.

Good, Fast, Cheap.

Pick any two.

That sounds like a your-system issue. I hit Win+E (admittedly on an old Win10 box) and it instantly pops up an explorer window.

They literally can’t go full-transparency. I know a high-level insider, and the fact is that even the folks implementing things don’t actually know how it works, only that it does, and how to get it to generally behave.

…which is why it’s led to more than zero suicides.

That is a management failure.

And a management failure should not result in unpaid (slave) labor.

This is an inherently human problem.

Those are exceedingly difficult to solve via technology.

No. Management will take and take and take during “crunch time” then immediately layoff large chunks of staff before they give anything back.

It’s happened scores of times. No company is as loyal to its labor as it expects labor to be to it.

Easy: No one should do unpaid labor. Period. “Crunch time” has traditionally been deployed by games management as a license to free slave labor from game developers.

Failures of management’s planning are imposed as emergencies on the devs.

Nono, parent was asking “They’re bad and inefficient at that, so why have an LLM do math? Why not just use some code and the CPU/GPU that’s already good and efficient at basic math?”
