I was fired by microsoft last year, Satya said the layoff was not due to performance reasons and he refused to elaborate what it was. In the job market I had to explain at every interview why I was laid off. People still ask me why I left MS to work at my current less prestigious company when the learn I used to work there and I have to sheepishly repeat the lie I have memorised to make them go away.

Even when I was at MS I saw a culture of always being in firing and hiring mode. They fired people who were perfectly good at their jobs and hired people who needed to be trained and needed higher salaries.

Sorry Satya. I just can't trust MS with my career anymore and I dissuade more people from going there everyday. ¯\(ツ)/¯

I have been working for 10 years and unable to afford a home to start a family.

I have about 350k USD and live in New Delhi.

VTI avoids these issues. It's float adjusted market cap weighted. More float allows better price discovery. So a company like spacex has negligible weight.

Whenever a company does layoffs willy nilly frequently I stop trusting them with my career. The AI excuses are lazy.

I was laid off last year by one of the big tech companies, and they called me again for a rehire but I just dont trust them anymore even if they pay more. The layoff completely disrupted my life and I developed health issues because of the stress. Not worth the mental hassle.

I have seen a few workplaces which are more deliberate in their hiring and are not on 24x7x365 hire and fire mode unlike many of the big names. I would rather work in such a place rather than have 10 varieties of coffee and condiments in the pantry.

Frankly i'm pissed off.

Sorry for the people who pinned their hopes on cisco and were laid off yesterday. It's not easy.

Engineering books are very expensive in my country. I want to give calculus a spin. Spivak is a hundred dollars.

I use archive storage class on google cloud, to store old movies and wedding videos, pictures of old vacations.

For everything else I use paid onedrive subscription. The biggest problem is user interface with s3 like storage and predictable pricing because remember you also pay for data retrieval and other storage apis, with dropbox etc you pay a fixed amount. Every year or so I roll over data into the bucket.

But for infrequently accessed data its fine.

I find myself completely outclassed by mathematicians in my own field. I tried to learn a little math on the side after my regular software engineer gig but I'm completely outclassed by phd's.

I am unsure of the next course of action or if software will survive another 5 years and how my career will look like in the future. Seems like I am engaged in the ice trade and they are about to invent the refrigerator.

It's possible to do the same with google sheets using GOOGLEFINANCE function and I have been using it to track and manage finances since years.
