CF has a free plan and paid plans. There's a fuzzy line in between. I would like to know when I would be transitioned to a paid plan.

They have an internal metric - I just wish it was public. How can I make a business decision on cost without this?

This is the part I don't like

> if you use or are suspected of using the CDN without such Paid Services to serve video or a disproportionate percentage of pictures, audio files, or other large files

Lots of sites have images. When exactly can I start to expect paying? Will this unspoken limit change in the future? Will I be notified when it is? As-written, it doesn't seem that way since it's opaque.

I understand, but the original comment was saying that was worse than what was available to many. That is not true in my case.

As a human, I often find innovation harder than imitation as well!

* I do love trying to innovate, and it feels so good when it's a success!

It has just seemed like people are big fans of the "free, unlimited" plans here. I use a provider that is pay-per-usage personally, which seems more sustainable.

Support is part of the cost that is rolled into that pay-per-usage fee IMO.

It has fluctuated over time, but has almost always been over the minimum limits (25/3) IMO. It is also vastly more reliable than our only WISP option in the area.

What I have seen is that the cell will start to fill up, speeds slow down a little (still better than our WISP and other Satellite providers), then the cell closes. More satellites launch, speeds go up, and the cell opens again. It's my experience, so take it with a grain of salt. I've had it since the original beta / before 100% coverage.

Most of the complaints I see are from people with existing cable options. It is not as good as cable/fiber, but a complete game changer for those of us who have had flakey connections.

OT, but this is why I am skeptical of Cloudflare right now. Am I right to be concerned?

That's never discouraged me from experimenting before ;)

But in all seriousness, it depends on the chemistry.

Li-ion? - No way I'm building my own!

LiFePO4 - can come in nice prismatic cells that are easy to connect terminals with bars (just remember to keep them under compression!). Their failure mode is MUCH nicer than Li-ion.

LTO - these are really interesting to me, and I am really tempted to branch out into this area. They look great from a safety perspective.

Disclaimer: I have installed ~15 kWh of DIY batteries for solar.
