So I did a little more research on this and obviously now realise first must get on the first page. Which looks impossible thesedays without find a lot of people to give upvotes...

Of course this is my first submission to HN and I did not even think how/whether posts get on the first page. This one seems to not even show up on '/newest' let alone '/new'.
Is there some algorithm as to when posts get to the landing page ( /new ) or other site areas?
What are the spam filters and rules for first time posters?
There is was a tiny http server called hibachi that was about 1500bytes(or whatever ioccc max?) and many years back I implemented mjpeg cgi script for it in busybox posix shell script. I forget how long it was but I would guess no more that 100 lines of sh.
This comment reminds me of the joke about the sewage worker, who is chatting about his job and says 'to you it maybe just shit, but to me its my bread and butter'.
Internet always seems the similar, pipes|garbage in| and munging on urban dictionary.....
