On the one hand, I have to give credit to IX for realizing they made a mistake, admitting it openly, and changing course. On the other, as someone who very painfully upgraded their home/lab devices to Corral, the idea of rolling it back is a miserable experience. Also, the idea of moving forward with it was impossible considering the crippling performance issues I experienced with it.
I was hoping this latest release could be used as a reliable backup target in my enterprise, but now I will use this as an opportunity to look at every other possible alternative. At this point I don't trust that Freenas or IX will be here for the long haul. So, what alternatives are the rest of you considering?
Wow, "Social" has truly just jumped the shark. And seriously, someone did not use their brain when they came up with "Furry Friends Photo Contest" for the demo site name??? What in the world were they thinking?
One of the things I think is most important is that employees should not be utterly surprised if layoffs occur. They should be well informed, and invested enough in the company to be aware that the company is having problems. Senior management should be communicating company performance long before layoffs are needed.
I've now seen several examples in small companies where the CEO has held back the bad news until layoffs were required, and the morale of the remaining employees was much worse than it should have been because of it.
If it's not Heroku's fault in some partial way, then look at it from another perspective. It's an opportunity for Heroku's competitors in a market that is quickly becoming commoditized. At the very least it's a feature that I always look for when using pay on demand services, and will rank very highly on my list of important to have features.
Akamai comes to mind as an example of a company that has always had similar issues. If I ever were to use them in the future, I would have to factor into their monthly costs the partial FTE required to manage their usage and costs. More importantly, if there are other CDNs that offer better cost management features, I would almost certainly use them before ever using Akamai again, unless there was no other technical option.
WTF, Garmin... The real issue for me as a long time sports user of their products is, if this causes problems with garmin connect (like I expect), I will finally be fed up with their products.
I've had nothing but disappointment with Garmin's commitment to their products until Connect came out. I hope this isn't the last stupid move of a failed company.
