And we trust these people with the root CA cert in our Secure Boot?

Opus 4.8 says to take the car. 4.7 said to walk.

“I want to wash my car. The carwash is 50m away. Should I take the car or go by foot?”

Pretty cool! You could also boot into an ephemeral minimal initrd that displays a selection menu instead of doing it in iPXE. That would grab the new kernel and initrd from the network and kexecs it without reboot.

How come the bots on 4chan and Reddit are better than these?

This is all cool but what we really need is tabbed tiling. I miss the days using i3 where I had a fixed canvas of frames and then just tabs for each frame.

Can we please have someone make and maintain a safe, good, minimal and reliable Windows distribution like Alpine Linux?

Hi,

thanks for your comment. Your story touched me immediately in my heart.

I can recommend you this book on your quest to get more insights and ideas for healing:

"Healing Developmental Trauma: How Early Trauma Affects Self-Regulation, Self-Image, and the Capacity for Relationship" from Laurence Heller, PhD

I’m sorry for your situation.

Having gone myself as a 5 year old sibling through something like this I wish to stress this:

Don’t let your other children become chronically mentally ill, send them to the psychotherapist and counselor and do that for years. You can’t imagine the amount of suffering they will have untreated. This is not something that you can just outlive and your children are dependent on you supporting them by giving them support from somebody who actually can support them. The scar of this trauma will run many many years, make them extremely vulnerable and can render them with a full blown disability.

You can prevent this. Don’t let other people who have no idea shame you for seeking help for this.

It should be again like this. I only truly understood C after I wrote my own fully functional Operating System (e.g. paging, interrupts, user mode, multitasking and multicore etc.) and got it running on bare metal. Programming other things in C now often feels like when you beat the final level in recent Mario games ("Champions Road") and replay the core game again, it just flows is easy and highly enjoyable.

I'd recommend every serious programmer to write their own OS.

I recently tried to find a health related tracking app on the Apple AppStore in order to conveniently track and manage my health but I noticed that I cannot trust any offered app anymore, regardless of paid or free.

This can come either because the proliferation of *analytics, broad openness of supposedly sandboxed systems, needless availability of fingerprinting methods and lack of proof of privacy commitment by the vendors (and any published privacy policy is not enough), or because I just became too paranoid (or both?).

Examples like these validate the suspicion that you can’t trust any app or plug-in anymore, with big vendors being in a inbetween position of “too big to lose trust”.

I wonder when we will reach the point where there is no trusted web browser anymore, no trusted computer appliance. When will it be that you cannot even say a word to a person in-person anymore because it lands in a weakly secured cloud by the microphone inside their smartwatch that runs a weather app that is run by crooks. Or is that point reached already?
