The folly is the same as the rock star amplifier that “goes to 11” or how gig economy reviews are 5 star = acceptable or better, anything else means dreadful.’It is just a linear transform people have to do in their heads.

I am glad it does, and I don't want to stop the motivation, but you are hearing the success stories. Most Github projects / side projects don't land jobs. That is why I think it is important to do them (if you choose to!) for other reasons too, like fun, charity, learning, or whatever.
It is a PITA from an ops point of view unless you use vanilla with no extensions. Each upgrade tends to break a bunch of extensions and you have to hunt around for solutions.
