I have severe ADHD, I remember enough to remember how it is. maybe it's because I'm in my 20s.. at least the feeling/vibe and knowing how "it's for your own good!!!!" type of stuff actually sounds like
but still, imo I haven't changed that much. less risk taking, more worries, more wisdom (somewhat)
maybe for some people they really are super different when they're younger but for me it's been kind of a linear path after a certain point
+ don't quote me on this but from what I know, ADHD affects mostly short term and working memory, but long term memory, especially significant events/etc. can be quite well retained, which matches my experience
my point still stands, the problem is, now instead of Google saying "we can't do anything about it" any lobbying/political group can go and say "well you could just ban it, does this mean you approve of this app?"
it's like how credit card companies can shut down porn sites overnight by citing their terms of service
this is something the EU would love, it's part of the whole Transparency thing where you dox yourself to everyone
HNers (especially Americans) are super naive and think the EU is some bastion of freedom. no. it just wants to be a huge nanny state but in a wholesome way, where you can do whatever you want as long as it's approved
but I can totally see Google banning developers and removing their apps for political reasons, where some lobbying group bombs them with emails
because with this they're explicitly saying they're now choosing who gets to be in or out, there's no way for them to say we can't do anything about it
I do think this would improve security, but I also think it's sort of a Trojan horse to lock down the ecosystem
I just don't see how with the whole open weight system this situation would happen or that it'd be likely enough to warrant this
in terms of privacy, yes that's a real application, but someone taking it all away? I don't see it happening.
it's not an OS or a device, it's just a box/thing that runs a model, it's really commodity stuff we're talking about
more realistic concern would be that the open labs wouldn't be able to compete in the future thus development ends, but that means you can't host models that don't come out so...
again maybe I misunderstood but I just don't see why this would be worth it just for that one concern
