Interesting that apple seems to be following the same model as they did with their mobile devices in terms of developer functionality. Their view seems to be to start off really tightly locked down and then gradually open up additional features to developers. It makes sense in that its much easier to open stuff up after its been locked down then to lock down stuff once people have built stuff on it.
I dabbled in scala for a while a few years ago and ultimately decided not to invest the time becoming an expert in it for the following reasons.
1) Slow compile times, I really value fast feedback and if it takes me over a second to compile and run a unit test that just doesn't cut it for me.
2) No clear idiomatic style and having many different ways of doing things each of which can imply different behaviour in different contexts.
Seems like they actually use RP-1 (rocket fuel) as the hydraulic fluid so that it is burned as fuel after it has been used. This means that the hydraulic fluid isnt "dead mass"

You can actually get an iPhone 4S replacement battery + tools to change the battery for less then $10 dollars. Certainly a-lot cheaper than replacing the whole phone.
As a London native for almost 10 years I cant tell you how many times I have been ripped off by black cab drivers taking longer routes then they could have. I also cant tell you how difficult it can be at certain times to find a taxi to take you home so people inevitably end up using unlicensed "mini cabs" to get home. This all because the licensing regulations are stuck in the stone age. Hopefully Uber will drag London kicking and screaming into the 21st century.
As a side note I also dont think there is anything stopping a London black cab driver from signing up for Uber.
The biggest take away from that article for me is that they are offering the fix for free to current owners. How many other car companies would do that? Unless they where required to by law which is clearly not the case here.
If your writing tests after the unit then you not doing TDD right.
TDD is not designed to be a good technique for developing algorithm's but rather for designing OO systems and discovering the collaborations between various objects within a system. This doesn't mean you can forget about solid OO design principals and just somehow land up with a good design just because you use TDD.
In the UK at least I think its only a matter of time before either google or apple but in a huge bid for the premier league TV rights. It would give them huge penetration for there TV offerings almost over night.
Have you tried IntelliJ? I haven't used netbeans for years but for me IntelliJ is light years ahead of eclipse. I would be interested to hear from anybody who has tried both for a reasonable amount of time.
I am amazed that people would go through the effort to counterfeit a £1 coin, you would literally need to counterfeit millions of coins to make the enterprise worthwhile and then how would you launder them all? Obviously the benefit is worth more then the cost but I find it strange none the less
It should be possible to determine fake from real accounts using various statistics like number of likes per account average number of time between likes etc etc, with all the brainpower at Facebook I am surprised they haven't significantly mitigated this problem. This is not a problem that can ever be completely solved as its a typical arms race between good and evil but i am surprised at how badly Facebook appears to be doing as others have noted perhaps its because it in there best interest or maybe its just more visible on Facebook then it would be on google addwords or similar.
You get a hell of a-lot of R&D, talent infrastructure and pretty much anything for $16B think Facebook with its engineering talent would find it fairly trivial to replicate the tech. The big consumer internet acquisitions are very rarely about the technologies and more about the installed user base.
