The Target here in ATX next to downtown hired 2 ex-PMC's in full plate carriers. (APD's call backlog for nonviolent reports runs 36- to 48-hours, so it might as well be never. A private person must then either be equipped to defend themselves, cease venturing in public, or move because the police may be too busy or too unconcerned elsewhere.)

This was a sensational news trope on MSM nightly news and news magazines in the 90's in the US.

Some categories are explored or unexplored because either they didn't have a compelling, defining entrant like smart watches or they're Chindōgu like flying cars and VR.

Build something that's currently painful you know there's a definite need for and people would gladly pay money for. Solving a burning pain is far more compelling than incrementally better with the gotcha of introducing the risk of change.

The biggest mistake people make is not letting things soak in a lean, passive income marketable way. They'll build something, shake the trees for customers for a little while, and then turn it off 3 months later when they're not instant internet billionaires. Not working would be 15 years later <$10k/year net profit. Let it simmer with as little engineering investment as possible. Never waste time on churn for churn's sake, or effort that doesn't add end-user UX value.

Windows 2000 was later corrupted by XP-ification. The primary difference was 2000 was "NT 5", where the Explorer UI appeared to be split between foreground and background components. XP threw this away and went with the Windows 9x/ME shitshow as late as Vista. Windows Server 2003 (Whistler Server) was better than XP (Whistler) and was mostly an improved Windows 2000 (originally named NT 5 in the source code). I would generally consider using Windows Server 2003 for workstations instead of Windows XP because of its close compatibility with the latter. Windows XP Professional x64 (amd64) and Windows XP 64-Bit Edition [ia64] existed but didn't find many takers except in retro systems and niches where they had HP Itanium machines.

There is a conflation of the like and dislike button of multiple attributes:

1. agreement

2. respect

3. fascinating

4. production quality

These 4 attributes should be graded individually rather than together.

The problem with toxic positivity is toxic positivity. Without constructive feedback, content will skew towards safe and seeking approval rather than important or courageous. It's impossible to be real if there's only one candidate to vote for.

Did you forget Alphabet (Google) owns YT?

It's obviously unimportant or you wouldn't have happily paid for it.

Giving away code to a paid app while it is viable and thriving offers no benefit to the producer except to allow anyone and everyone to duplicate their app and create knock-offs. The right "eyeballs" will never look at it because of Tragedy of the Commons.

Therefore, it's a wish but not a requirement.

Why? Obsidian already does this better. If it's not going to be better or targeted to different users, then the most likely conclusion to draw is de facto reinventing the wheel without a strategy other than "me too".

Always build something different and defensible.
