That’s only the case if there are only two articles. In general you’d be looking at the difference of two order statistics (of the uniform distribution). You could probably approximate this quite well as a Poisson process though (since there are so many articles) and so have exponentially distributed gap size.

Audio is the most important and hardest component of learning a language so apps have a huge advantage over textbooks any day. I really don't think recommending textbooks is at all relevant these days. Graded readers are better for simulating immersion. Apps are better for getting your feet wet. Textbooks can teach grammar but so can apps and really you have to be pretty far along for grammar to be the main stumbling block (over listening, pronunciation, and vocabulary).

At the risk of being pedantic (or misremembering college classes), there's more to it than that. First, at the relevant distance scales, the magnets aren't point particles, they have an extent and very close to that surface it should be 1/r. Secondly, magnets are dipoles and at greater distances the two poles cancel out to first order and you have a 1/r^4.

Do you know that Letter 6173 makes such a request? I would guess that it's more likely it requires you to either simply acknowledge receiving the letter or to agree to something like the statement that you already had to sign to when submitting your taxes:

> Under penalties of perjury, I declare that I have examined this return and accompanying schedules and statements, and to the best of my knowledge and belief, they are true, correct, and accurately list all amounts and sources of income I received during the tax year.

Though of course you are right that anyone should consult a professional in such a case.

Actual question: what's the point of Messenger if you don't have notifications enabled?

Reversible computation (which that 125 year number refers to) has to be done very slowly. There might be some applications where that would still be relevant, but it's pretty clear this trend don't last even until the 2048 mark, let alone for another 125 years and beyond.

The Feynman lectures on computation have some good sections on reversible computation that I would recommend.

Subliminal shilling or decent understated joke?

While that's how I read it, perhaps the condition would be citizenship. I.e. they don't want to simultaneously allow more people into their country and also give everyone in their country a lot of money for fairly obvious reasons. However, the article doesn't give translations of the actual measures so it's hard to say.

Surely Clang! had significant hardware components, too?
