That's a super interesting take in that the normal assumption that "there's more games" is a supply-side statement.

But Jevon's would apply a step before that. The "demand" is really the people wanting to write games. When they do that, they then create "supply" in the video game market.

Per the parent comment however, Jevon's doesn't address the mean "quality" of games decreasing.

Similar things happened to published writing (prior to the Internet, published writing typically involved editors and professional writers) or Photography prior to digital cameras. That is - technology made something far easier to create so, it was indeed more commonly created and the mean quality (at least in the artistic sense) went down.

There's another facet I've watched with interest:

>> Building videogames, with Roblox / Unity

This has resulted in something like 90 new games entering Steam every day. While some games may still be art, they're increasingly difficult to find among the noise. I've heard the mobile game market is in worse shape[1] by the deluge of games. "More games for everyone!" sounds great - but note that definitely doesn't mean more "good" games - or more "innovative" games all the while encouraging rampant copying/stealing of ideas.

Funny thing about that list is that I bet 99% of programmers that use it test for equality, not suffix. Some disposable email systems allow any domain - including subdomains of their own domain. (i.e. <something>@<something>.mailinator.com [1])

If you're using "equals" - it won't catch it.

As a data point - as a longtime Linux user, I hadn't tried Linux Gaming for a very long time until recently. On a fresh machine, I installed POPos, Lutris, Steam and a few other things I forget.

I've yet to find a game that didn't work. Triple-A stuff too. I'm sure there are exceptions, but I've yet to find it. I'm guessing there's a performance hit but that's just a guess - I haven't seen it.

By far the most challenging was Assetto Corsa which took an hour of installing sequential versions of Dotnet, but even that works flawlessly now. Including a Driving wheel, pedals, etc. (Logitech 920).

Seriously -- Steam/Proton/Vulkan has come such a long way.

Instructional: Install Steam.. goto Settings.. then "Steam Play". Turn on Steam Play and install Proton (either Experimental or the Latest non-Experimental). Lutris (for GoG) will instruct you on needed Wine.

Well - firstly consider the linux desktop has been touted as a "not yet ready" for 10? maybe 15 years.

While it was obscure, it wasn't targeted as often by viruses, malware, and the worst thing of all - commercialization.

Same idea as when anything obscure gets too popular. The original occupants (whether they're right or wrong) aren't too keen on seeing the crowds rush in.

It was a good run. Mainstream linux desktop will be the beginning of the end.

Super cool. How do you prevent your sending from ending up in spam folders?
