macos went from quirky-functional to performative-dysfunctional in line with society

"high friction" is a good euphemism for modern tech in general, how it feels to use.

reminds me of when theresa may said UK would become a "hostile environment", because it really feels like that in more ways than she meant.

a high-friction hostile environment is a good description for life.

> It’s funny how “ownership” in the digital world has become an illusion.

it's like every "innovation" now brings with it convenience at a higher cost and takes away ownership and often features

personally i'm quite sick of digital nothingness. its all transient.

i want to get more into real world things that have texture, weight and permanence.

the irony here is that you are studying AI and looking for work in AI,

presumably to reduce future jobs in the outer edges of the distribution curve

AI was a convenient vessel for shadow QE these last few years

Now, with rates falling, they can pivot the story - call it an AI bubble, let it crash

then use the crash as justification for renewed, open money printing

there was a clear timeline, each one enabled by the previous

...covid

...remote work

...moving away from HCOL areas

...quiet quitters

...layoffs

...RTO

...no jobs

workers got too much leverage and it had to be taken back.

why not?

seems like the entire US tech economy is putting their resources into this goal.

i can see it happening soon if it hasn't already

they're just tightening the noose.

don't you feel like everything is getting worse in some ways?

the delusion is to think you're special because you work for a big evil company.

> You will cause untold mental, physical and financial upheaval for many employees who now have to spend money on commuting, childcare, pet care, to name but a few.

as if they care.

why does it feel like the world is full of "explainers" and "rationalisers"

usually unintentionally pushing the accepted narrative

anytime something interest comes up everyone seems to try to downplay or explain it

the fact is even your explanation is wrong on some level

AI just lets us do the same things but faster

if you had bad taste, your taste is just badder faster

i think this is why so far there hasnt been any real moment of innovation from AI

because its not doing anything new. same crap as before just faster

soon there will be entire new industries of "Bullshit Jobs" to keep the masses occupied

they rather pay people to sit in a room pressing a button every hour than have them loitering around on UBI

either that or in the pod
