You’ve drawn the wrong conclusion. People still read on the train because there is rarely phone signal when underground. If phones were internet capable during commutes, you’d see a lot less books.
Your content is similar to those on Reddit that post things to karma farm. Parent commenter is not an outlier here. It’s just that dissenters rarely comment or even browse HN anymore due to the low quality posts.
I guess my comment got lost in translation. The project OP linked in his comment is a toy project, not a difficult problem as he led others to believe.
Regarding the Metaverse, VR, blockchain, etc. people were antagonistic towards them at the time, not in retrospect. If anything, people are showing much more hatred towards AI than any of these aforementioned technologies.

You seem to think you’ve found some sort of gotcha. There were plenty of crimes committed in the MBS world. See GS, Credit Suisse, and others. However very few were prosecuted at the individual level.
The MX440 allowed players that were playing games on id Tech 3 to finally play at high frame rates. I remember this card being all the rage back then in pro gaming circles for this reason.
