"Back in the day" is the key idea here. It's the valuation that doesn't make sense in today's market. What does Cursor offer to be valued at $60 BILLION? Its models are alright but nowhere near SOTA, and pretty much superseded by open source local models at this point.

Flounder might even work, since my initial complaints that the generated designs obscured the wearer's eyesight were met with solutions that just moved the offending eye to the side of the person's head :)

That's great, though I wasn't even thinking at the scale of reflection or refraction. My test was if the image generators could come up with a novelty pair of glasses that incorporate the year digits into the shape of the frame itself with some whimsy, rather than just plop the numbers on top of regular boring frames. So something like [this](https://p.kagi.com/proxy/oardefault.jpg?c=-4THVYblKrsgkzFTNE...) rather than [this](https://p.kagi.com/proxy/2026-Glasses-4-Color-New-Year-Glass...). A lot of the initial designs just incorporated the numbers into the frames, with no consideration for relative placement to the eyes, completely obscuring vision. Additional prompting might lead to cutouts for the eyes, but that was unsatisfying. At least as of this past new year's eve, I couldn't get any of the image generators to give me something even passible. Images 2.0 also couldn't give anything acceptable till I gave it some examples.

That's lovely. My own personal benchmark has been to ask the various models to generate a functional pair of novelty New Year's Eve glasses on a person, that don't just plonk the year onto the top of regular frames.

I've used their "perfected" xanthan gum which is a separate SKU from their regular xanthan gum. At least for gum arabic they seem to only offer one SKU, so I'm guessing it's not prehydrated.

Is the Modernist Pantry gum arabic pre hydrated?

I've sometimes used baking soda to accelerate softening of beans, and I imagine the effect is more appreciable at higher altitudes perhaps? Some of the usage of baking soda could be innocent enough.

It's largely unfiltered, but it is still treated for disinfection. Chlorination and UV is standard for NYC water, and its fluoridated as well.

> I got mine in 2015 and the process was hassle-free.

Funny story - I had my police verification the week of demonetization in 2016. After the cop was done, we both silently knew that even if he asked for something, there just wasn't cash available to give him. He looked heartbroken.

> It needs to be about minimizing total damage, even if it means damaging isolated areas intentionally.

I think that's an arithmetic everyone largely accepts, but they just don't want to be the specific ones paying the price while others seemingly get only the benefits. NIMBYism, if you will.

How many (Apple) devices can be simultaneously paired with the Airpods?

Different use cases, mostly. The XM4s are over ear and have much better sound, but they're overkill for work (my workplace is fairly quiet, at least these days). The Jabras are a better fit for that. The XM4s were a bit of an impulse buy when I needed good ANC for my frequent Zoom calls while sharing an apartment with noisy family.

I have the XM4s, and the multi device support does work. My only real complaint with that is it has to be initially configured in the companion app, and enabling multi device support disables certain higher quality codecs. Once configured, the app isn't necessary for multi device switching.

I have the XM4s, and they support multi device connections - which is how I use them. They can be paired with up to 8 devices, can be connected to 2 devices at a time, and support one active audio stream.

I get exactly this sort of functionality with my two (non-Apple) bluetooth headphones - the Jabra Elite 85T & the Sony XM4s. The Sony's can be paired with up to 8 devices, support two simultaneous device connections, and one active audio stream at a time. The experience is the same with the Jabras. I listen to podcasts on my iPhone, pause, and can seamlessly switch to Netflix on the iPad. It "just works".
