Yeah let me know when the designer drugs that build the cognitive awareness of AR, without all the dumb gadgets, are available.

I’m sure we could simulate experience through detailed hallucinations, methods that leave behind the neural structures, reinforcing belief through social story telling. That’s how religion worked.

Everyone is obsessed with making experience happen through technology as if it’s more real to our memory down the road, when it never happened for anyone who wasn’t there.

Fear.

The Greek philosophers wrote of their fear some day the people might climb Olympus and find there are no Gods.

Economic uncertainty versus certainty of a paycheck.

No one asked any of us to build specifically these things. We get paid to.

Agreed; I see no use in this comment.

First world culture is a literal train wreck of needless industrial behavior imperiling lives we won’t be around to help.

Let us wax poetic about the selfishness of our jokes.

Kushner’s covid team but he worked for Trump.

Our biology won’t let us do anything but game ways to beat each other

Neuroscience models this at least in part as a limbic-cortex feedback loop.

The words may have faded but years of recitation, embedded childhood memory, muscle memory; it’ll take time to rinse out.

Bonobo tribes have killed their alphas and developed egalitarian social ways. I sometimes wonder if we have to figuratively end billionaires to end the abstract model of hierarchy. He who is highest on the wealth leader board controls agency like priests of old.

Does it matter since some other law enforcement agency would have jurisdiction and could establish an arrangement to just have the feds do that anyway?

I don’t know that Bumpkin Fyfe being in charge has been shown to be any better.

He’s effectively describing Trump’s leaked plan to let covid ravage blue urban areas before the election, but here framing it as a liberal plot as a narrative device

Maybe he’s a Republican astroturfer

Someone just learned the root language of real human economics taught to us as abstractions through story and pie chart.

What if the value store is the network itself.

At this point currency is an abstraction relying on computers. I handle cash personally once a month.

Amazon cashier-less stores are just as much to normalize the behavior of not paying as reducing jobs).

Producing currency, securing it, moving it, the old banking infra just for finance management has a huge environmental impact.

Banks are easily socially engineered. Corruption is rife.

Eth shouldn’t be pegged to a dollar. It’s not a currency. It’s an information network.

What crypto should be is not property but the technical network abstraction we develop and roll over.

Grifters are trying to generate traditional wealth off the idea it’s a literal thing but we could just keep rolling new protocols out. Up to you to store your work.

It’s a logical substrate for transmitting and storing information that can’t be monopolized like physical money if we see it as such.

Unlike banks with full vaults, ephemeral network control can be coded out. No one person can become a black hole with disproportionate pull on social agency.

Yeah. The author calls it out clearly; their COL being insane is on them.

This feels like publicly processing having too much going on at one point.

It’s hardly Analogues fault code hipsters must absolutely live in the most expensive urban area.

Analogue is learning too. They don’t see daily life through everyone’s specific lense.

Accept that if you want to be an ornate snowflake, it will take outsiders time to understand.

Are you suggesting founders are A players?

They’re the B players who suck up to wealth holders.

Are there A players? Everyone gets a handout at some point. The ultra rich get one in the form of no taxes. An A player would surely just be a billionaire.

Sure is easy being an A player when your handouts from decades ago earned a lot of interest.

How are we still this oblivious? We spent the last decade making building these things this easy on purpose.

Where is the A game in using the machine how it was intended?

Life is a human communication game first, as the “best system” we’ve socially engineered is externalized support towards common goals. It’s not science or engineering; it’s sympatico.

The problems we’re solving at these jobs (I reserve work for its meaning in physical systems, jobs/career for you know), are ostensibly people problems. So the decisions I make are optimized for that. I don’t call it politically optimal, but optimal, because that’s it; that’s THE game of life.

It’s subtle language emphasis maybe, but I used to visualize my thoughts as a text stream and “rewrite” constructs I did not appreciate in the moment. Redefining ideas like “optimal” to be human first behavior. Ideas like “optimal technical solution” are boxed away for when I’m working.

It helped me understand managements drive, to have folks doing useful things, but also made me question how useful much of this is except as busy work.

This is manufacturing consent right here.

It’s easily Googled; ~30 million people move each year.

The CEO of Upwork is engaging in SEO.

An academic in Canada is calling normal behavior a “great unmooring.” Then bail on any other discussion they had with said academic.

Suburban developers with data from Mar 2020-2021 ignoring easily Googled fall 2021 data showing a reverse in the urban exodus.

This article is SEO spam, ostensibly about a big deal, but their data is normal movement of the population, and outdated sampling, wrapped in grand language.

You’re flogging the abstraction known as English.

None of these philosophers old works need to be given any weight and working with you to decipher your personal beliefs is not my problem.

The abstractions of physics and biology provide the evidence necessary given the context.

Perhaps sit and ruminate as you wish. Those dead men have no capture of my perception. Paulo Freire said we have no obligation to import the jargon and implied behavior of our captors; I won’t submit to Christian rule; why rich mens dollars? The political capture of our economic behavior is a cudgel I’m tired of being bashed with, and the measurable effects are where I’ll put my effort.

If you prefer to equivocate them away with deference to endless semantic recitation, that’s fine, because I know that means you won’t be in the “real” way. You’ll be here proselytizing others just how none of the effort is going how it should.
