I've been self hosting immich for the past 6 months. It's pretty awesome. The App has some performance issues but the web is flawless. I cut down on my iCloud plan since I deleted most of my videos from it. I use restic to manage backups with my own key offsite.

I have no idea, I use wireguard to access it. I have disk encryption setup. They'd need to hack my linux server SSH which I have protection turned on to shut it down after failed attempts. It would be a challenge to get access to my photos on disk. They could steal my phone and access through the app if they could get them all before I disabled access since Im using encrypted icloud account.

In the end who would want all my photos for that amount of work lol?

Im of the opinion it’s all marketing and the government has continually shown themselves to be insider traders.

lol for us it was token spend charts, then we’re told token spend is stupid so they create some aggregate metric of cost per line of code that also tells us nothing of actual customer value. It’s wild to me how at that level there’s zero repercussions

This is all still going on at my company but they’ve been trying to create dashboards to measure us as good or bad with our output unsuccessfully but they keep shoving it through anyways. It’s demoralized a lot of people.

My country proves time and time again ego and profits matter more than lives. It’s always so depressing watching it all happen and if you try and point out the cost it’s hand waived away or seen as a personal attack.

I don’t believe that at all. Maybe it’s killed large lecture classrooms. There’s a lot of other ways to engage students and ensure they’re learning but it involves being more active and actually communicating with them instead of yapping lectures at them and making them write about it. I find most college classes that involved lectures to be a waste, why sit and listen to a teacher summarize a book for an hour? My best experiences were classes with active engagement and producing things in class or bringing them back to class to share discuss and learn.
