Looks like the BeBox motherboard didn't have the external L2 in the first place.

Besides web sources, logic dictates this as well: Since dual-cpu was its selling point, it wouldn't make sense to ship a disabled L2 implementaton on the mobo at extra cost. There was no single-cpu model.

Ironically Google's Yubikey implementation requires you to register a phone number to your Google account, which many people don't want to do.

That article is a year+ old. It was predictably shot down. Remember that the EU parliament is pretty toothless.

Currently it looks like there's a week or so of "roaming allowance" per year, and even this would only come into affect after a years-long transition period.

Telecoms are good at lobbying.
