How is it even connecting to the Internet in the first place? Surely the OP isn’t willingly plugging an Ethernet cable into his dryer or giving it his WiFi password.
Samsung TVs will forcibly connect to any open AP to get internet access...
There was a story in a similar subreddit where the owner of the TV intentionally didn't connect the TV to any networks. But a neighbour set up an unprotected WiFi network and the TV connected to it automatically without any prompt.
And there is no way to tell it NOT to connect anywhere.

I wonder what the legal consequences of that.
What if the open network is pay-per-bandwidth-usage? Could the owner bring you to court, since you own the TV? And could you bring Samsung to court over that?

And just the security implications of connecting to any open network. I could tap your viewing easily and possibly compromise your TV remotely by having it automatically connect to a hostile wifi nearby.
Given that the post is in the “smart home” subreddit, I’m pretty sure they did connect it to their wifi network intentionally. It probably does something very basic like send a push notification when the load is done.
I'm curious what 'useful' feature set of a laundry machine is enabled by Internet access. The only thing that comes to mind is remote access e.g. to change washer/dryer settings or to check cycle progress, but surely implementation of the aforementioned features requires only LAN (or LAN + SSH etc.), and not public internet access. Or just buy a regular machine which doesn't suffer from these anti-features.
Push notifications for when a cycle is complete is the prime feature
At a gig a day, I imagine OP is getting down-to-the-second analytics on wash temperature and spin speed and a live feed from a camera inside the lid. What else could use that much data?
