WhatsApp is an app to communicate with another person or persons. "chatting on WhatsApp with friends and relatives with no specific topic discussion" -- sounds like someone looking for human companionship.

I can't believe this is a serious paper.

I noticed the paper was published in India. This screams excuses for patriarchy.

My guess here is that even though it is basically an anecdote, BPD or not, we all know people like this, or may be people like this ourselves.
