You can just tell codex to port the codex app to Linux (and it works apparently)

How are you going to confidently tell the difference between it being slightly dumber, vs just having bad luck with your recent attempts?

How does that work? Doesn't that mean Microsoft/Amazon/Google have full de facto access to OAI's and Anthropic's model weights and operational processes?

This is one reason it surprised me that Anthropic decided to run stuff on Musk's hardware. It seems overwhelmingly likely that the new Grok release is informed by what Musk has been able to learn from that relationship.

There's likely a major world war brewing. Should I not be thinking and forming opinions about that? It's probably going to profoundly affect me.

How do you reliably prevent a clever psychopath who's set their mind to it from gaining power?

> Change is not going to happen until it's forced.

Yes, Pearl Harbor was a known vulnerability, prior to the Japanese attack. The US just wasn't ready to take airpower seriously, at that point.

According to Zelensky, there will be drones capable of traversing tens of thousands of kilometers within a couple of years. The US mainland is definitely at risk of drone attack in the near-medium term, IMO.

> One, two, three years — drones will strike ten, twenty thousand kilometers. With reactive engines, they will be very cheap -- Zelensky

According to The Economist, the Iranian theocracy is no longer in power, the IRGC is. Still, not the regime change Trump was hoping for, that's for sure.

> Khamenei’s killing has accelerated Iran’s transition from a theocracy to an ambitious nationalistic state dominated by military men. The irgc appears to wield power with few constraints. Clerics who challenged its influence—including former Presidents Mohammad Khatami and Hassan Rouhani—were conspicuously absent from the [funeral] processions.

The goals for intervention in the Serbia/Bosnia conflict were clear and noble, IMO.

> Why don’t we have reasonable logistics and supply lines and infrastructure with $1T?

Deeply entrenched corruption, obviously.

Got a cite?

At this point, it has a lot to re-learn, as the Trump administration has been systematically lobotomizing it for 18 months.

> How in the world did Anthropic have to do all the theatrics about Mythos just to have OpenAI release an equivalent or stronger model a month later without any drama???

Corruption. Giving Trump $25M will earn you a favorable decision.

It's just a shame that none of it seems to pan out, and in the areas where I know what they're talking about, it all sounds like cynical nonsense to me.

The "free market" gave the PRC its current strategic lock on rare-earth minerals. There's definitely no such thing as a free market in a Maoist dictatorship. I personally think the "free market" concept is an unachievable ideal and thought-terminating cliche, but "free market in a Maoist dictatorship" is for sure a contradiction in terms.

I just finished Everyday Zen by Charlotte "Joko" Beck, and it's very pragmatic and good, IMO, though you won't learn a lot of doctrine from it.

Zen is not a good Buddhist tradition to start with unless you have a skilled personal teacher, IMO. I would recommend starting with something like dhammatalks.org instead. (Click on the "For Beginners" header near the bottom of the page.)

Right now, we seem to be shambling toward a war which would hit globalized industrial processes very hard. Buying decent hardware now might wind up looking like good insurance against that.
