I understand that, bu usually HN refrains from commenting repetitive one-liners.

The main reason I come to HN instead of just living on reddit is that the chance that the comments refer to content in the article and not just the sentiment of the headline is much greater.

Also, comments are somewhat unique. The trouble with reddit comments is that they are completely overrun with extremely predictable memes or express some sort of emotion (usually outrage or hype) without adding anything.

I really fear that HN turns into a subreddit, because I have no idea what site I would go to next.

To me they seem as kinda unusual for HN, more reddit-like. Among all the threads I have looked at in the last few hours, this is the only one where it is so extreme.

This piece tries to argue that women are less interested in libertarianism because they are "less rationalizing-systemizing" and therefore don't "get" libertarianism, but many underlying assumptions are very weak.

For example:

Could it not be that more women consider "the politics of provisioning social welfare" an effective institution than men? Or more generally, could it be that people who rely on welfare programs [0] have a different view of them? If you think poor people are not only poor because they deserve to be, some form of welfare is going to be part of your idea of "effective institutions".

Producing Children poses a significantly larger economic burden for women than for men (the primary cause for women receiving more welfare is their higher likelihood of being a single parent), so it is very unsurprising that they view welfare programs differently.

Alexander also implies that people who think offensive / sexist people are lowering participation of women by hurting their feelings, not by ignoring or dismissing issues that disproportionally affect women, which I find a bit odd. If libertarianism is about personal freedom there is plenty of space for issues that affect women (like abortion, freedom to wear certain types of clothing without being harassed, ...), yet I see very few libertarian talking about those issues.

I find the idea that women dislike a certain thing because of some pseudo-scientific evo-psych goop rather than economic reasons a bit absurd.

I appreciate your effort, but what makes this beautiful? It includes Javascript from Google Analytics, CloudFlare, Twitter and a bunch of other Places that don't provide any visible functionality. Further, this looks identical to the regular mobile HN layout, besides the colors.

I have tried voat multiples times as a reddit substitute, but every time I was appaled at how hateful the community was.

Unrelated, but I find hosting a site like voat on Microsoft Azure very ... strange.

I think this really shows how hard it can be to monetize. So far this proposition seems unanimously unpopular among reddit users, because it goes against the spirit of the site.

Reddit already has a stable source of income - Reddit Gold - that could easily cover hosting costs, but thanks to the acquisition by Conde Nast they now have way to many staffers and are trying way to hard to justify their supposed valuation.

I am really fond of reddit (even though the content quality has decreased dramatically in the past months already), and I hope they will be able to come up with a monetization strategy. Frankly I have no Ideas here, anyone ?

I apologized if this comes across as rambling, I am tired and a bit sad about this.
