Expertise and graduate degrees in critical pedagogy in secondary and post-secondary educational leadership. Have now written more than 106 million in grants (as of March, 2026). The ROI on my salary was pretty ridiculous.
Recently left higher education due to the unbelievable shift towards making higher Ed into a business and the toxic culture that follows that shift inherently. Hit me up on email for more soapbox rants.
If you're looking for someone who excels at technical writing as well as breaking down complex technical documents into human readable material (and prompt engineering it turns out), shoot me an email.
I'm no longer employed in higher education but will gladly work with postsecondary folks on a temporary basis.
Contact me at LoughlaHN (at) gmail (dot) com. But note that I only really check that one occasionally.
The one thing that is keeping me from riding the routes that I believe would be the must fun/scenic is the OBSCENE cost of those tickets. Granted, these aren't commuter tickets.
I would love a trip across the high plains and through the mountains by train. Just like I would love to take a cruise from the bottom of the Mississippi to the top.
Everything on your list but VA benefits and defense are very regularly called into question. Even VA benefits are questioned pretty regularly, but that tends to be put down pretty quickly.
When I was a kid you could get actual m80's that were like a quarter stick of dynamite. Now you can only get little firecrackers that don't even blow up little green army men.
It's really dependent on your state laws. My state allows fireworks, so you can get most things but they are very limited in size and explosive content.
What it amounts to is that most cities/counties don't enforce their existing laws in this area because people would have a shit fit, and they would arrest so many people that it's kind of impossible.
Something something banning things doesn't really work to do anything but make criminals out of every day people.
I mean, the current party in power is making out in the open moves to profit directly from tanking the federal government. What's the centrist view in this one? A little robber baroning as a treat?
That says that when a measure becomes a target, it ceases to be a good measure.
My argument is that in the 21st century, a time of great data use without deep understanding, any measure at all will inherently become a goal to be gamed.
You have to realize that if you set a measure, you're actually setting a goal for your employees. There is no such thing as a meaningless metric; why else would you measure it?
No amount of "this isn't used for anything" will change that. It's inherent in human nature in the 21st century to believe any and all metrics will be used against them, and therefore must be gamed.
It's why you also have to set UNBELIEVABLY clear goals and have incentives tied to those goals. Incentives meaning money. If you want to measure things, measure them. But have clear, consistent, and meaningful goals tied to bonuses or something if you want a thing done correctly.
I have yet to find something on Amazon that I couldn't find at a local shop for within 5% of the Amazon price. I live in a very rural area, so I have to imagine that it's easier if you live near a city. Or maybe my sample size of 1 person isn't enough.
That's the one. The entire plot is just two fuzzy red people fucking their way across the ring. Not great.
Also he fell into the trap that many science fiction authors do of listening to the critics who complained about the math not working. Pretty much every book after the first in that series was just a way for him to try to make his made up world work in real life. Not great.
If your job is impacting your health, literally do something else. I know it's seemingly flippant but it's real advice.
I left a very high stress job for one that pays less, but has zero stress. Within 1 week I had to come off the blood pressure medicine. Within 2 months I started weaning off the anxiety meds.
It's like I've been looking at life through frosted glass, and it's suddenly clear. I wish I had done this sooner.
The loss of income isn't the end of the world. You can make it work. I did.
I mean, there is a read of the culture that is pretty dystopian. If Minds are able to, essentially, predict the future, what is the purpose of the humans, other than as a sort of abstract pet acting out the Minds' great plans.
Something something Bora Horza Gobuchul was right all along.
Unless I'm looking after about 6 months and my savings isn't as healthy as it once was. Or one of my kids is sick. Or pretty much anything happens costing money.
Then I'll be miserable for a little while as I continue my job search.
Practicality, sometimes, is more important than ethics when other people rely on you.
