https://hcker.news has an optional AI filter. I don't know how accurate it is.

My main gripe was fixed in this patch. Planting and harvesting with the agricultural tower can now be controlled with separate conditions. So now there is a better way to avoid wasting so much fruit and therefore, reduce spore pollution.

How is hitting the library an act of rebellious defiance? Getting a library card requires an ID and proof of address. The library then tracks which books you've signed out. Unless you're reading the books inside the library without signing them out.

If you haven't already, you should read John Romero's autobiography "Doom Guy: Life in First Person". There are some details from "Masters of Doom" that Romero disputes.

This is my life. I drive to the office 5 days per week to sit in a tiny windowless room. I have meetings with Europe in the morning and meetings with India in the evening. The rare time I need to talk to someone in the US, they are in a different building so we talk through Teams.

What niche market? I work for a hardware company writing C++ code and my company literally has a dashboard for managers that shows employee's token usage. My manager warned me that my low usage will reflect poorly on me during performance reviews later this year.

I had thought about creating something like that for finding comments for articles. For a given article, display links to comments for HN, lobsters, reddit, etc. However, I feel I already waste too much time reading comments. I shouldn't make it easier and more tempting.

Why link to twitter post about a Fortune article? Just link to the article.

Go back to school for what though?

I'm 43 and I've been thinking I might just retire if I get laid off and can't find something new. I'm frugal and have enough saved up that I could make it work if I leave my high cost of living area.

I'm not worried about engineering jobs being eliminated. I'm more worried that companies are going to expect insane velocity because of these tools and I'm not going to be able to keep up in part because I care about quality. At my company, the people that use AI to generate the most code seem to get the most recognition.

I found it funny when an American customer support person I was talking to over the phone had no idea what "zed" meant. I was reciting some code and they asked, "what is zed"? I said, "uh, the last letter of the alphabet".

How are they measuring it? My boss gave me a hard time because I wasn't using enough of my token budget. How do they know what percentage of your pull request was AI written?

I'm forced to use Copilot at work. I can't resize the font size and there is usually a delay when typing in it for the first time. In Outlook, it often opens the side panel on its own.

It is a markdown thing. It removes the "copy" button from the code block when the markdown is rendered. Search for "nocopy" on this page.

When I worked at BlackBerry, it pissed me off when CEO John Chen sent out an email telling employees that they need to be fully focused on their BlackBerry job. Meanwhile, he was on the board of directors of Disney and Wells Fargo while BlackBerry was failing badly.

The Android filesystem APIs are a perfect example of this. The old answers no longer work because Google keeps restricting what apps can do. If you're lucky, someone might post a comment or a new (non-accepted) answer.

I assume they thought the person on top of the mountain is a man instead of the same woman with her hair tied back.
