I was the person that created the issue. It is a joke and while I understand your concerns regarding respecting open source repositories I think it is important to be aware of the context of this specific one. The company shows significant signs that it doesn't care too much about the contributions and just use this repo as a publicity stunt.
People can still look at the repository for educational purposes and search for specific real issues, it is not like I was making the code dirty by merging a PR.
Either way, I'm sorry if it ended up offending anyone, besides of course the person that decided it was a good idea to layoff most of the company and throw a 5 billion worth branding out of the window.
